Black livers are the rarest of the livers because it requires them to be hom Sty and hom DP.

It would help if you posted a link to the horses you are talking about, but in general DP has nothing to do with spots or white markings.

You may be seeing lots of dapples, they do show up on livers quite a bit.

I can tell you, without the testing, that the draft filly is black liver chestnut. The color name will only say liver chestnut, when you test her.

To get black liver you need FOUR things. 2 SSty's and 2 DP's. (SSty + SSty +DP + DP = Black liver) Since the DP is a hidden gene you won't know for sure if both are there until you see the foal. Any combination of THREE of the above genes will get you a liver. (SSty + SSty +DP = Liver, or SSty +DP + DP = Liver, etc). So any 'red' liver will have at least one DP.

The spots are dapples. You can get dapples on any color, but they show up best with DP and, from what I've seen, with S+.
