Is it better to keep horses "Purebred"?
-
I am trying really hard to keep my lines purebred but I was wondering if there is a benefit of doing this? Do players find it aesthetically pleasing to see if a horses line is purebred?♡ ID #23495 ♡

Well, there are no "breeds". If you mean "purebred" as far as generation wise, most players prefer foundation bred to foundation, 2g to 2g, 3g to 3g etc.
-
Define what you mean by purebred? All Warmbloods in pedigree or all ponies etc? If so I do not think it matters - at least not to me.
-
Sorry I should have explained better. I mean Draft, Warmblood and Pony♡ ID #23495 ♡

I think she means warmblood to ridding horse or draft to ponies etc.And I don't think it's a bad thing I see it all the time in horses lines but I do prefer to breed warmblood to warmblood but that just me
-
No, it doesn't really matter to most I don't think. Especially when you get two warmbloods, breed them, and get a riding horse or draft as the outcome.
-
@StarfireAcres Yes, That's what I mean.
@Kassierae Does that happen? I have yet to breed horses that aren't of the same "Family", except breeding two Drafts and getting a Cob (But still in the heavy family).

Yes it does. I had it happen recently, actually. A 4g mare, with nothing but warmbloods on each side. You can theoretically breed heavier and heavier from riding horses and end up with drafts in X amount of generations.

That's good to know. I will keep an eye out on sizes and bone when breeding :)♡ ID #23495 ♡

People can actually breed from riding horse to draft, and from tall to really small. You just need to choose the ones in the line that have a highest, or lowest, numbersProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

I dont think most people worry about it at all. Some might and thats fine and I know some have specific lines like they will have a strict draft line or a strict pony line and at the same time breed their other lines differently.
-
I have seen a ridding horse and a pony foundation being bred and the produced a warmblood witch just blew my mind. I'm still confused on how that happend lol
-
@StarfireAcres I think there is a range that the parents can throw based on their bone weight. If both are very close to the threshold, then I bet it'd go over and you go up or down, depending on what direction it points.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

oh wow so if you have a big boned ridding pony and a very boned pony you will get a warmblood or a small boned draft and a big boned pony you will get a warmblood?
-
You could still get one or the other of the parents, I believe. But if you mix large boned riding horse with another of its like, you can not only get riding horses but also light boned warmbloods. That's how people breed up on bone density, and it can be done going down too,Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

@StarfireAcres: Once again, the game is like real life. I'm not an expert, but I remember reading that the real sport warmblood breeds like Dutch Warmbloods, Hanoverians, and Trakheners, for instance, were created by crossing local draft horses with thoroughbreds and Arabians to created sturdy-boned yet graceful horses that are fast and athletic. Once they had achieved the desired result, they bred to fix those characteristics, frequently using mare and/or stallion trials to certify which of the horses had the quality and characteristics to be eligible to continue the breeding program.
If you do a Google search for any of those breeds, you will probably find a history of each that will tell how it was developed.
Even Thoroughbreds started by crossing English mares with Oriental stallions (Barbs, Turkoman, and Arabian) to create faster race horses. Every thoroughbred in the world traces back to one of three stallions--the Byerley Turk, the Godolphin Arabian, and the Darley Arabian, although others were also used in the early days of the breed.De gustibus non disputandum.
