Would you snip this colt?
-
He has very high PT but papers the same as his dad witch was weirdly papered at B when my sparkling cider mare is foundation same RS but papered C..what do you guys think
Cider foal -
I would keep him intact. Have you compared him to his sire? I think I would. He has a nice PT score for a 2nd gen.
-
Sparkling Ciders are Exceptional Producers, hence the 'B' papering.
He papered 'C', which is backwards in quality regardless of comp. testing/colour/etc - so he should be gelded. A good PT score shouldn't be the reason to keep a horse intact.. in my opinion.AztecArabians

my foal papered B not C
-
And I can't do a comparison test because his dad was in public breedijg
-
Aw ok. I thought you owned the sire. His PT is higher than both parents. I would definitely keep him intact. It is normal to get B papered colts at 2g.
-
Yes that's true I'm going to keep him intact I think :)
-
I'm really strict when it comes to snipping colts so personally speaking I would probably have gelded him. But I'm definitely not saying you have to or that you should. I like my colts to be superior so if I get a B papered colt from a B papered foundation sire that I don't own I will always snip or sell. But like I said, i'm strict with my boys because I don't want a ton of studs running around my barns that I won't use :D Hopefully he'll give you some good babies when he's older.

There is a big range in B's, personally I think he'd be worth a comparison test to a C papered rank special stallion if you have one. If he was only AGA a C papered foundation I'd geld him. If he was superior he'd be worth keeping as then you know he'd be at least AGA his B papered sire, and could even be better. His PT isn't really an indication of his breeding quality.
If you require superior colts, then you could either compare him to any B papered rank special foundation. Or to a B papered gen2 stallion who was superior to their C papered sire -
Oh sorry Star, I don't know why I thought he papered C...I think I'm going crazy!AztecArabians

You can comparison test him to any B papered foundation. They will be the same as the sire. Compare him to a B not a C, that would be a waste of money. Kintara has forgotten the sire is a B.

With a B papered sire, he should be papering A. He would get the snip from me.
-
I would agree with kassierae. Especially since his mother is an Experf and that combination has the ability to produce an A papered 2g colt.
-
I gelded him he turned out to be inconsistent anyways and your right Coeur his mom is an Experf I wish he would have papered A he should have his parents were good
-
@Starfire His parents are good, it just takes some luck and the right cross to get an A papered 2G colt. I've managed to breed 5 or so of them between this season and last using only perfect foundations and experfs. They also generally come out of my mares that have a full pasture bonus.
