Straws are what allows us to breed our stallions artificially. If you have at least a Basic Upgrade, you can go to the Advanced Breeding Lab, which opens on the page for collecting straws. Use the drop down box to select the stallion you want straws from and enter the number of straws you wish to collect. There are limits to how many you can collect, which are listed on the page.

Once you have straws, you can use them on your mares by going to the Use A Straw page. You can select a mare and use one of her straws on her to produce a foal.

Using the Create an Embryo page, if you have a Premium Upgrade (I think, I'm not sure about the exact requirements for this), you can create an embryo using a straw and an egg you own. Otherwise you can create an embryo on that page by using the straw directly on a mare to make it. The embryo is then implanted in a surrogate mare to make the foal.

All these features of the ABL come with a cost, some of them quite high.

To sell a straw, go to the Sell a Straw/Egg page, select the name of the horse that the straw was pulled from, enter the ID number of the person you are selling it to and a price, and click the button. The game keeps a record of all the eggs and straws you own and any pending sales to other players.
