PT Score
  • I've seen it before but can't quite remember what the answer was. What PT do you want to see for each generation?
  • I think it varies for each player. Like me for instance I am more lienant on my PT scores.

  • It absolutely varies from player to player. I use the pasture bonus with all of my horses. So I require a pretty aggressive increase in PT with each generation.

I expect 10.0 and up for gen 2
10.5 and up for gen 3
11.0 and up for gen 4
11.3 and up for gen 5
11.6 and up for gen 6

I am starting to see a sprinkling of 12.0 and up foals at gen 5 and 6, so that's pretty exciting!

  • I have about the same criteria as Cheers.

  • I don't mean to hijack this thread at all but I was so excited because last week I pt tested a colt that got gelded and he tested 12.5 (my highest were 12.3s up until then) and last night a spayed mare tested 12.6!
  • i have a spayed filly that pt tested at 11! my highest pt so far! :D

  • My all time highest is a gen 9 12.7. I hope that since I stripped back all my stock and basically restarted my herd over gen 4 that I will be able to up that significantly in the next calendar year, but my focus now is still quality mares at gen 3 and 4 to be worthy of my up and coming shiny stallions!

  • I do have some 12- 12.1 foals, but I really don't count them as they are from a high gen auction colt I bought and mares on public breeding. The highest PT I've got out of home bred parents is a 11.7 filly from Bandit.
As far as PT scores go, a poor PT score, although I do use those to determine if none keeper foals go to auction, or will be put for sale and kept in the show herd otherwise, since everyone tells me that PT score doesn't tell foal's breeding ability, I have it reflect more on the mare than the foal. I need to be more consistent with this, I am way too soft with mares I bought from other players, as well as certain genes I'm trying to promote in my herd, but as my barns are getting full again I will have to be more harsh on it next year.
Ideally, this would be how it goes:

Gen 1: Mares with foals that PT under 9.8 will be sold
Gen 2: Mares with foals that PT under 10.4 will be sold
Gen 3: Mares with foals that PT under 11 will be sold
Gen 4: ? This is my first year with gen 4s. I don't know what my cull practices with them will be.
  • Wildland, you may be more successful using an Average Foal PT score with at least 3 foals per mare. I have Top mares that have dropped a single foal with a really low PT. Using a single data point could lose you some nice breeders...

  • Thanks Cheers. One of the reasons why I was really soft with this is how so many times I go to sell a horse because it isn't as "good a breeder" as the rest, to find it is a top notch producer or one of my blues. Not selling them. I was just trying to find some criteria to go by since all bot three of my mares are papered red so far. haha. Average PT is a good idea.
