Brindle?
-
I know brindle is rare but is it possible to raise one or pretty much only get them from special creates? Also if you can breed them, do your chances increase if you breed a brindle to another brindle?
-
Breeding brindles is super rare but does happen. Similarly spontaneous creates happen at foundation generation. All of my Gen 2 brindles do have at least one brindle parent and I know several gen 3 and later brindles who have brindle at the foundation generation somewhere, but it is incredibly difficult to breed for brindle. Using brindle parents I believe does microscopically increase your chances.
To put this in perspective, I have about 2500 broodmares over 4 generations, roughly 600 of these are foundations. A high proportoin of my foundation mares and stallions are rank specials and therefore many of them are brindle. I also have one gen 2 brindle stallion and 2 gen 2 brindle mares (one of breeding age). If I breed all of my horses, I get one brindle foal once every 2-4 seasons or roughly one every 5-10k foals. I have never bred a brindle past gen 2. Of all of the brindle foals I've managed to put on the ground, only 3 have passed free testing. Breeding for brindle is super tough! -
How does she the saying go? "Breeding for brindle isn't a past time, it's a lifestyle"
A very very dedicated lifestyle. Only one of my brindle stallions has ever had a brindle baby. And it wasn't even from my mare. (Public breeding) the chances of one of my brindles producing a brindle again in their lifetime us probably at like .3%----

Thanks good to know!
