Age to Show Profit
  • At what age should a horse start showing a profit? And does the PT score have an effect on when a horse starts to win? I have only recently gotten serious about showing and would like to learn as much as I can so I don't hold on to horses that are most likely never going to be a good show horse.
  • This is a difficult question to answer, because every horse has its own hidden algorithms. Generally speaking, when horses get up to level 4 or 5, the number of horses in a show are enough to increase the profitable positions reasonably. As for ages of leveling off, intact horses with PT scores up through the 10 range generally level off at the age that matches their PT; neuters generally when their age is 1 year higher than that. Horses with PT scores above that level off around the time when age and PT level are equal. However, their point gain per week slows down considerably sooner, usually around 9, I think. At least that's been my experience. I had some very nice neuters in H&J1, a gift from JustChrissy, with PT scores in the 11's. They were steadily gaining 5 points per training until they got to be about 9. Then the point gain reduced to 4 and continued to decline from there. (I don't remember the exact ages, alas. Too many game years have passed.) Eventually they'd only be gaining 1 point every month or so, without being marked as "Leveled Off.

With the new system, of course, with its lower entry fees and lower payouts, this issue becomes less critical. As long as they continue not to come in absolutely last, they will continue to gain points with showing and to add to the weekly point bonus. If they are continually placing in the bottom 3 or 4, the point gain may not be worth keeping them, if they are only breaking even between point gain rewards and entry fees.

De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

  • Every 1.7 points a horse earns is equal to 1 hb a week. On hj2 horses live for about 72 weeks. 1,7 points earned as a yearling is worth 72 hbs. 1,7 points earned as a 10 year old is only worth 32 hbs. (given an average of 32 weeks left to live) 100 points on a just turned two year old is worth 1,020. You can see how irrelevant profit is compered to points.
  • So you should keep old showers till they die, yes?
  • If they have enough points to be worth the stall space.
  • Since profit isn't the big number anymore, would changing the profit column on the stable page with total points earned be beneficial? Or even doable?
