12 year old stud?
-
I bought this stud but he is (6,7)generation lined stud. He has two things I want but I don't like being uneven. The added bonus is he is A papered. What would you all do with him?

I try to keep my horses even bred, just so I get a better chance at an intact foal. But, I don't mind uneven breeding. I have made some boo boo's when breeding in pastures. Getting the wrong gen mare in there. Some of those pasture foals have grown up to be excellent show horses, that make me show bonuses each night.
-
I bought him to be a main herd sire but now I am scared to try with him? I have a nice foal that I could breed to him. She is uneven as well and right now these are the only 2 horses in my barn that is uneven.
-
If they are close in unevenness, you may want to just breed the two of them together a couple of times to see what you get. Just be aware there is a higher chance the foals will be altered.
-
I may try that. I guess I could get some nice show ponies from them.
-
Yeah, I do most of the time. And showing is where you make your show bonuses. :D
-
With unevens, once you learn it a little bit, you can better control what you improve on/ what you have more intact on. Higher stallion will give you a significant boost in mare quality and have most of them intact while snipping most colts. I wouldn't condemn the horse because he is uneven, though I do with he would have appeared star by 6/7. He is 12 years old. I'd suggest going to his family tab, go to the foals page and see what he was bred to and how the foals grew up and how they do.

Maybe he'd do well in the show arena
-
Ok will do that. He has the black pearl color that I want.
-
He has produced a star son and a blue mare.
-
Awesome! Star and blue are good quality. :)
-
Ok should I put him up for public breeding in the new year? I ask because I won't use him but on one mare. Do you think other people will use him?
