Ranks, levels, points, breeding and tattoos.
  • I am a new member and I've been reading the help me out forum for awhile now and I still feel I don't fully understand this game.. Specifically Ranks, Levels, Points for showing, Breeding, Tattoos.. And so on.. I apologize for how vague this post but I don't know how to word it any differently.
  • Hey Laiken! Some of the terminology gets a little interesting!

Ranks--I assume here you are talking about herd helper ranks? They simply indicate how rare or common a herd helper (and therefore the color of e horses produced) is. So rank 1 is dead common, while rank 5 is a fairly rare combination. Rank Specials can come up in your daily herd helper feed randomly but they are usually give out as a single create to every player by Ammit for special events. While all the numbered ranks just produce a random foundation horse with no guarantee as to their breeding or showing quality (except the ones that specifically are for that--Perfect Foundation, Top Notch Producer and Great Show Horse) the rank special horses will always be Perfect Foundations with the specific color genes for their rank special. Perfect Foundations are the best you can get for showing AND breeding in the foundation generation, so they are highly sought after for base herds by pretty much all members.

Levels--again, I think you're talking about showing levels? So just like in real life, as you train, learn and get better you can enter more difficult classes at shows, in the game as our horses train every week they can show at higher levels. The levels go from 1 to 8 and in each one there are 4 divisions--local, regional, national and world. The higher the level and division, the more horses enter that class, the more points and prize money there is up for grabs. Very few horses in the game get up to the very top show class.

Points--so every time you enter your horse in a show you pay an entry fee. If you place above last, you earn some points and some hbs in prize money. If you place close to the top you may make back your entry fee or even make money, if you place lower you will make less than your entry fee. The prize money and entry fees are what is reflected on your horse's page when it talks about profit or loss, but what you really care about is the points. You will earn 3 hbs for every 4 show points you own (own, not earn!) every week. This is the real money maker in the game--not selling foals or putting your horses up for public breeding. Many older players maintain a herd of good show ponies that are available to be adopted by new players so they can start building up their show bonus quickly from the beginning. I now make 100,000 hbs a day in show bonus. Some players make a ton more.

Breeding--not sure exactly what you're confused about here, but if you read the Breeding Info at the bottom left of the screen and are still confused, please ask some more specific questions!

Tattoos--tattoos are basically an extra feature that is Searchable in the horse search. It can help a player sort their horses quickly (by generation, special genes, etc) or be used as a visual reminder of things to avoid (like a lethal gene pairing that would result in a dead foal if you pick the wrong breeding partner). Tattoos are automatically applied to foundation horses created from herd helpers, but they are the only automatic tattoos in the game. You can create your own tattoos (I think you need the basic upgrade) but you will need to talk to someone who can draw more than stick figures to understand that. There is a relatively robust trade to get artists to create tattoos. All of my tattoos were created by other players for me.
