Welcome to the game! Like any game, the real point is to have fun, but the objective is to find a combination of genes you want to make and then try to create it by breeding horses with a few of the genes and combining the foals once they grow up. :) What you want to do right now is just fiddle around and find what genes do what. :P

Its a lot to take in at first! But once you get the hang of it its easy peasy. It just takes a little bit of exploring, a little bit of messing around/experimenting, a little bit of researching and a little bit of question asking! We all are more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Reading the forum posts helps you learn a lot! We were all new once! Here is a link to a bunch of other links to threads that are helpful for newbies! http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/9577/links-to-helpful-discussions#Item_1
and here is a link to a little thing Confluence and I are doing for the new players. She started it and I joined in lol. You can get a free perfect foundation mare breeding to one of her stallions so you will get a mare and a foal. And from me if you would like, you will get a show horse with 300+ points which will be a good start to your show herd. Breeding is fun but building up our show herds is important because eventually thats what makes us money! There are players in the game that make a million+ hbs a week from their show horses. Of course they have barns and barns full of thousands of show horses but its what makes the money so we CAN breed more :)

Welcome to the game and have fun!Thanked by 1RoseFlute -
This is a complex game, so it does have a fairly steep learning curve. If you're interested in learning about breeding, check the Breeding Info link near the bottom of the left menu bar.
Showing is also a very important part of the game. You should train all your horses once each real-life week, and show them twice. As they are trained, they will advance up the Levels and Grades (See My Show Entries in the left menu bar under Showing). Every horse except the one that comes in last will receive a certain number of points based on the level of the class and the number of horses entered. Every night you will get a bonus of hajibucks based on the number of points all your horses own. This is the major moneymaking strategy of the game, far more important than trying to breed horses for sale.
You can use the Search Horses feature to look for horses with the Available To Adopt tattoo. You can find horses with a decent number of points there to give your showing bonus a quick boost.
ETA: You enter shows by clicking on the arrow to the left of your horses' names on the barn page or by clicking the flag under a horse's picture on its own page. Just select any show that's available. Filled shows run every hour.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
