Hungry horse names
  • Apparently I'm hungry today. I've named mares: molasses, yogurt pretzel, Creme caramel, muscovado, golden syrup, simple syrup, maple syrup, blood orange, Creme Brulee and Creme Anglaise......there are a lot of sooty palominos in there...

Anyone else got yummy ponies? I'm off to hunt up a snack!
  • I had a mare called Creamy Pudding. Yay.

  • I have a lot of Apple, Caramel, Pumpkin, Chocolate, Fudge, Brownie named horses. Now I need to go get a snack... =))
  • You've got me giggling.

On HaJ 1, I just named a foal Try My Crackers. She's by Tried and True out of Lucilles Crackers.
De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

    SandyCreek Farm: ID# 441
also playing H&J1 as SandyCreek Acres: ID# 137592
  • I used a cookbook as inspiration for show pony names as I was culling last year's foals....lots of food named ponies in the new show barn! But I tend fo pick a book and name show ponies from it til I run out of names or ponies...have several batches named for the chapter titles in Harry Potter books and another set named for all of the creatures in Magical Creatures and Where to Find Them....
  • I have a lot of Car model names, and a lot of state and city names from Oregon and Washington state. Some 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie names. The 'Wizard of Oz' named horse's started from Abbey Road. (I bought my first 'Oz' named horse from Abbey, Yellowbrick Road.) I love the movie 'Gone With The Wind' and started with names from that movie in WHG. I carried them over to here. I think I still have Bonnie Blue Butler, Melanie, Scarlett, and Bonney Blue Flag from that movie. As well as a lot of old movie and song names. When I ran out of those I went to a baby name book.
  • Cheers, I'm still laughing about Shamwow! :P

I started a list years ago, and it has over 2000 potential names on it! I'm constantly hearing a short phrase and saying 'That would be a good name for a horse (or a band)'! I've also been known to go through a dog show catalog and mix and match the names.

  • This thread is awesome lol gives more ideas for how to name horses cause theres only so many names you can just think of off the top of your head lol. Usually my foals end up being some mixture of their parents names but even that runs out after a couple foals lol.

Paints I have a mare that I bought from you who was/is named Bonny Blue Flag :)
I think shes a stars n stripes mare
  • Moon--I also have pages bookmarked that are dictionaries for other languages (a Tolkein Elven language dictionary and one for a dying Aboriginal language) that I use to name some of my foals. That is more for foals I'm going to breed from though, usually offspring of my Uluru Reflections and Abbey Road's Galadhon. I also have pages of deities booked, say for the sky/weather, water, stars etc.
  • Oooo! I have tons of obscure deities bookmarked on Pinterest!

  • Thats awesome! I'm sure those make for some awesome names!

I'll have to do some searching tomorrow :)
  • I named my Sparkling Cider mare Faloodeh Shirazi as I prepared some faloodeh shirazi yesterday. It's rice noodles with sugar syrup and rose water mixed together and frozen. And it's delicious. Well, who is hungry? ;)

  • Wow that sounds super interesting!!
  • I actually named my horse "Cheesy Gordita". It's a food from Taco Bell. Now I'm wondering why I chose that name...
    Have a nyce day!
  • @Moon, the mare you have, is the one that got her name from a line, that the character, 'Melanie' said in 'Gone With The Wind.' Melanie was talking about how Scarlett and Rhett's daughter was named Bonnie, for 'The Bonney Blue flag.'

@nyc, 'Cheesy Gordita,' I am laughing so much I have tears in my eyes. I love cheesy gorditas from Taco Bell.
  • I have not had lunch yet and my stomach is now threatening to devour me. Thanks! ;)

Not to worry, Leftovers from the restaurant we went to last night are in the oven!
