Hello everyone!
Well this looks like a fun game! I actually operate a small breeding facility in real life. This game looks a little easier and cheaper than actually having a barn full of horses! Is there a place I can go to learn more about things like time line and breeding seasons, etc? It says I can enter 2 shows a week with each horse. Is that real time? What is a Hajyear? Also, do I need to upgrade to a full account (right now I have a free one) to do performance testing and papering?
Thank you all! This looks so fun and exciting!

Hey KC!
This is a great game and way cheaper than having a barn full of the real thing...the color genetics/pattern generation are getting closer to real life all the time.
There is a link close to the bottom left of the page called Breeding Info and it gives you a basic rundown of the breeding season and how to breed your horses. The breeding season/game year here is equal to one calendar month, so you've joined just before the new breeding season starts!
For almost everything else in the game, it works on a calendar week basis, starting at "weekly rollover" at midnight on Saturday game time. Game time is USA Eastern time and does alter to follow daylight savings time.
At weekly rollover you will receive your weekly salary and whatever show bonus you have managed to accumulate. The show bonus is the major way most players earn money--you get roughly 3 hbs for every 4 show points you own. Because of this, the most important thing you will do in the game is to train your horses once every game week (under the Showing tab on the left--Train My Horses) and show each of them twice (by clicking on the orange arrow next to your horse's name in the barn and then entering an available class). Every horse in every class gets some points except the one that places dead last. They will also earn some prize money, with the horses placing close to the top of the class making more than their entry fee and those closer to the bottom making less, therefore having negative earnings on their page. These earnings, positive or negative, do not include what you are making in the show bonus!
Upgrades can be helpful if you decide to play the game long term or seriously. You will need the basic upgrade to PT (performance test) your horses and to paper your stallions. You can also compare stallions to each other but this will cost 8000 hbs for each comparison. If you go for the premium upgrade you can also paper your mares after they have 3 foals, use Strict Mare Advice and compare stallions for only 4k each...there are also benefits in auto-training, auto-showing, the ability to use, pull, and sell eggs and semen straws from/on your horses and access to the GMT lab (Genetic Modification Treatment) where you can change the colors of your foundation horses or add genes your lined horses missed out on from their parents.
Ok, I've now written you a nice little novella! I hope you aren't overwhelmed and love this game as much as we all do. This is an incredible community and the players are very helpful and great about answering questions.
Oh! I can't forget to plug the Available to Adopt program! A lot of established players have herds of adoptable horses, usually middle aged horses with a lot of points accumulated. You can search for them in the Horse Search to the left and put Available to Adopt in the Tattoo slot at the bottom of the search box. If any horse catches your fancy, message the owner on the forum and we will get you set up! -
Welcome to Hunt and Jump!
I think Cheers covered your questions and if more come to mind feel free to ask away. The Help Me Out forum is also a wonderful resource to browse for those burning questions that might have already been brought up, but like Cheers said this community is wonderful at helping out. I hope you enjoy your stay! :D -
Welcome to the wonderful world of Hunt and Jump. It's an extremely addicting game, partly because it is full of life-like variability. Almost everything has a range of possible results. The other reason is that Ammit, the game's creator and owner, is continually adding new things or revising old ones to make the game better and more life-like. As has been said before, we're always happy to answer questions for new players, even if someone else has asked it before.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
