Favorite herd helper and why?
  • What is your favorite herd helper and why? Was just checking my daily herd helper and got what I think is a cool one- chestnut tobiano. I have seen less and less herd helpers shared. And sometimes I don't share bc I am not thrilled with my roll and assume others wouldn't want. But I know we all like different things. So I am curious what you like and I will post more of what I know people like:-)
  • Anything brown. Homozygous recessive agouti (aa). I like Sabino and Rabicano....but at the moment I'm culling rather than creating foundation mares, so I'm not using many HHs. I do try to post cool ones when I get them, though, especially anything that isn't a Rank 1.
  • Me, too. I tend to post the higher ranked ones, or if I see one that I know people are using a lot, and then offer custom creates.

My favorite, hands down is Top Notch Producer.
Second place would be Perfect Foundations.
I am not seeing the benefits of the Great Show Horses...but I'm giving them time....I'm guessing they will kick butt when they are older.
Color wise it would be W2, Sabino (any), and anything with Dark Chestnut.

  • Hilariously; I posted this ^, then went to check my HH, and what do I have? Great Show Horses!! ROFL!

  • My main breeding line is appaloosas, so anything appaloosa! I also go for 'dark' and cream ones. My end goal is dark DP buckskin appaloosas with GP.
  • My favourites are rank 1s dark chestnut and dark flaxen chestnut. Also brown, and palomino, and some pattern, but nothing with w1 or w2

  • I post every one of my HH's because even if I don't like it, maybe someone else does. (It also saves me from making too many horses when I keep the ones I don't like and post them, lol!)

I have several favorites, black mostly, dark bays and browns, dark chestnut in hopes to get liver, and then I also like cremello's. But one of my favorites is Cream Champagne, especially when you get a double cream from it, (cremello based or smokey based, but not big on Perlino's for some reason I have no idea why.) Reason I like it, is that cream hides Champagne when it is homozygous, and I like those "hidden genes".
  • That's good to know :-) I am also glad to hear the great show horses are not showing as well for others. Mine haven't been showing well.
  • Great Show Horses are not destined to make you money. But they all have a 9.9 PT and are consistent wich makes them more likely to make you money. It all depends on where they level off, and who they are competing against.

  • I like brown, dark chestnuts, and recessive bay (aa). I used to look out for silver, but I have enough. :) I'm especially looking out for splash, but usually without dilutes, and hopefully black based. Sabino is also cool, but it's so rare that I don't think I have any yet. :P

Even if a gene doesn't seem interesting, or is one you avoid for lethal combinations or too much dilution or white factor, keep in mind that new players are joining every day, and want to experiment. One of the first horses I ever created was a White 1 Black stud, who blew my mind the second he showed up. He had a low enough WF that I could still see the edge of his markings, of course. Later I happened to compared him to a Rank Special stud, and he fell short, so I snipped him. I don't breed a lot of whites now, but I still think they're pretty cool.
The point is, I never would have found the gene without someone posting an HH for it. :)
  • Ummm...Red Based Frame Appaloosa and White 2 Frame. I like them for pretty white or appy patterns. And I think I have some good luck with these DHHs - the first one gave me a het DP mare, from the second one I created a nice wild bay filly.
    understand the significance of signatures
  • Browns, Buckskins, Dark Chestnuts, W2 Frame, and Splash. But, I will post any HH when it is the off breeding season for foals. During breeding season, I am usually too busy to even check my daily HH.
  • Are we excluding rank specials? I like wild bay and brown, and anything splash. Because blue eyes.
  • Brown, Splash, and Sabino!
