How often do you guys find surprise carriers?Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Fun! I found at least one surprise snow in two years of playing, but I don’t test all of my new mares against snowflake stallions, so I could be missing some. This is a good reminder to test for snowflake, thank you!
My first snowflake was a colt out of a black splash pony carrier mare, and neither of her parents ever had a full snowflake foal.Looking for Appaloosas? Check out my Riata account. -
I just recently started breeding snowflakes, so super excited at these!
Just for kicks I put one copy of snowflake on my newest FF stallion. He is NOT appy, but I wanted to "encourage" some accidents down the road...Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
I routinely test new creates for snowflake. On average, I find one snowflake carrier in about 100 - 150 mares/breedings. I strictly use hom LP hom snowflake stallions for this but many of the mares are not appaloosa's themselves so, statistically, I'm only catching half of the carriers. So, I've figured that there's roughly a 2% chance of a mare carrying snowflake.

I recently discovered I had two hidden snowflake carriers - a 16 yo stallion, and a 3yo filly.Breeding quality pintaloosa riding horses and ponies - and having fun with it!

I've been finding a few each month. :)

I have about 40-50 secret snowflake mares....but I go on mad creating sprees and breed them to my hom boys that carry hom snowflake, so the babies are easier to spot :)♡ ID #23495 ♡

The first time I added snowflake to a horse I found out they were already het which was a lovely surprise.Thanked by 1HunterUnderSaddleGirl

Wow 50!
Ooh, I bet that would be cool.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
I bootstrap snowflakes on my alt account. Both of my starter stallions were only heterozygous snowflake so it was fun to breed their daughters back to them every year to find out who got the gene. I have my first three as good as sire homzygous snowflake studs ready to breed their first season in February (breeders club leaderboards here I come!) so I should find even more carriers in the coming month.ID# 43830

Wow! That sounds really cool! I used to kinda do that with KP but that was a while ago and it was starting to die out. But its starting to come back when I let teacher into the show herd. He's only an A though... I have a couple star stallions I like now though. No KP, but hope it will still randomly come out for those that missed a kit gene or something.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Wow! Ask and you shall recieve!
BA3324463het KP
He's a warmblood and only a low star, but is het. KP and should be fun to have part time duty in the show herd!Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
Speaking of KP that made me curious. I don't keep track (purposefully) no none have tattoos.

By Teacher. One of my favorite studs ever. And out of a mare I had NO clue had KP. So now have to go and see if I can find out where she got it.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
Ooh! I love guess where the KP came from!
A3S 2891420
(That's the dam)
She has 3 Greatgrandparents that are all HET KP... No expression from her greatgrandparents, grandparents, parents or her....
Edit: one of those greatgrandparents were only a possible KP. So it was a greatgreatgrandparent, so unlikely, but how would we ever know?
Edit: None of the "possible but unconfirmed" KP carriers had any expressing KP foals. So I think I admit defeat, but so cool!Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -
I’m going to guess it came from either your boy, Wow Man, or Cheers boy Day of the Moon. Dark stars Dark Sun Rising was only made het KP, with one kit gene.
-
Or maybe both and we would never know because she only has one kit gene.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

I have a handful of het Snowflake carriers in my foundation line, some i found when a geandfoal came out with it. I have a hom lp hom snf foundation boy now, so should be able to find more. And i have a non lp hom snf boy. I'd love to get a hom lp hom snf star for my bootstrap herd eventually. I've had a few Snowflake and KP pop up there.
I love suprises so much that i put/am putting KP GP and SF on two studs recently that mostly wont show anything until further down the line. This is my "Suprise" line. I.e. non LP Snf, non kit KP, black GP, etc.#28036Thanked by 1HollowbetheInk -
@Haltanny what lines are your surprise bootstrap snowflakes coming from?
And if you remind me next month I might be able to send you straws from my boys. They are very low stars as of yet so I don't know how much use they would be to you.ID# 47894
HTRanch's account for snowflakes -
@SweetGlow I got a couple when i crossed a couple of my uneven mares to a high A stud i have. Snowflake was back in the foundation of both, but i didn't know they carried until then. All mostly homebred to foundation.#28036
