Missing Gene Sale Genes on my guy
-
I purchased 2 copies of kit promoter and one of snowflake for this guy yesterday and was wondering how long it usually takes for the genes to be added? I double checked my receipt and it's for the right horse so just wondering. Thank you!

Your link just brings you right back to this discussion. But a couple things.
1. Snowflake is a homozygous gene, meaning it requires two copies, plus at least one copy of Appaloosa (Llp), to show on the coat.
2. Kit Promoter requires technically 4 different alleles, on one testable gene and one untestable gene. Any of the kit genes (roan, Tobiano, sabino, White 1-20, etc) x2, plus homozygous Kit Promoter which is untestable. You just know a foal has it or possibly has it because of its parents or grandparents.
So, snowflake requires
Testable: LlpL, LLlp, or LlpLlp.
Untestable: SnfSnf
Kit Promoter requires
Testable: Kit(any gene)Kit(any gene)
Untestable: KPKP -
They have probably already been successfully added - neither will show on your boy as he is now, but they will pass to his foals. For snowflake to show, he must have a copy of Llp (which he does!) and be homozygous for snowflake. Since you only added one copy of the gene instead of two, he carries the gene without expressing it. There's a 50% chance that he'll pass one snowflake allele to his offspring. For kit promoter to show, he must have two different kit genes and be homozygous for KP for it to express. He's homozygous for KP, but he only has one kit gene - roan. If you GMTed another kit allele onto him (such as tobiano, W20, etc), it should show up! :) As it is, there's a 100% chance he'll pass one copy of KP to his offspring.

Ah yes, thank you @sebeth204! Just s tip, even if you do GMT the second kit gene, since he has a WF of None, you most likely will not see much or any of the typical KP cloud. And yes, only one strand of snowflake does not cause the gene to express.

Perfect, thanks guys!
