A foal and points?
  • Hi, I'm wondering when a foal or 4yo should be starting to earn points/hb? Should it climb fast in level or how do you know it's gonna be a good show horse or avarage or bad?

Always looking to buy foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.

I work a 7day on 7day off schedule and my activity here will reflect that.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me.

  • There’s no way to tell if a horse is going to be a good show horse until it levels off when you can see whether it was a good show horse

low pt horse move up slower but tend to earn more points along the way.

High PT horses rocket up the lower levels so don’t pick up as many on the way but once they get to where they’re going they pick up more points per show and make up for the lack of points collected on the way.

You want a range of PT so that the low covers for the high until they can take over.
  • Thanks :) But i think i'm blind, cant really find anything that specific answers my question? I mean, PT and so on but i dont know how to cull or how soon? Now i have put a lot of foals and older horses up in the auction that has under 4 total points but my question is: a foal have been in 1L 4 times and all those times became last, i get right of it BUT a foal that has been in 1L 2 times an became 1st ans 2nd place and then 1N 2 times with the sam places. Do i sell that one too even though it doesnt have more than 1 point?
I hope you understand my question? O:-)

  • ok so if i sell the once with 0-3.9 points its good?

  • Because foals can't train, they're stuck in 1L. It's essentially just a flip of the coin then to see who wins. Never cull a foal on their placing in shows. Instead, wait until about 10+ years old to cull show horses, as then you should have a rough idea when they're going to level off.

  • I keep all my show horses, no matter what. Even if they level off in a bad spot, as long as the HBs they bring in every night cover the cost of entering them in shows, they get to stay. Soon as my foals don’t pass SBA, into the show barn they go. I know I still have last seasons that haven’t even been tested yet. I just don’t fool with them much. They go into an auto-show barn and I never look at them again. Keep everything if you have the room, your older horses will cover for your foals while they are getting their feet under them.

  • I need the quick hb right now and i decided to sell almost everything under 4 points. i need to start over in some sort. im creating a ton of new foundations for my breedingprograms and only keep a small % of them the intact get sold and the altered get in the showbarn but now i have to increase my daily bonus so i decided to sell off and then buy higer pointet horses for 2600 in the auction. Otherwise i wouldn't sell my offsprings who is gelded or spayed :\">

  • I'm odd, I know, but I don't cull my show herd at all. Once I toss them in a show barn, I pretty much leave them there unless my daily isn'trunning up fast enough or I don't make a profit showing them. I should go through them more often, I'm sure, but honestly that seems a lot like work. :3

I do cull my breeding herd of lined horses pretty often, but by show history, not points. If I have a lined mare showing in last place 5 out of 6 shows and costing me more to show than it's making, it's going to go see the auctioneer unless it's throwing nice foals for me. One thing I've noticed, most people say higher PT consistent horses are better than lower PT inconsistent ones, but I've learned the hard way horses can have awesome PT and still be consistently horrible show horses. • What you need to do is learn how to wait lol

This is not a sprint, this is a long distance speed-walk kind of game.

While the allure for quick cash is high with all the sales and specials happening selling off all your stock is not the way to get there.

You won’t be able to find your answer because any veteran player here knows that “keep all the things” mantra isn’t just because the horses are pretty it’s because keeping your horses is the answer your looking for but you need to give them time to get there.

Foals can’t train so they have no way of bettering themselves so their show placings is literally a flip of the coin (ok not literally because there’s tons of math involved but there’s only 2 choices)

4year old foundation horses are all in the same category as foals. They can train so will get better but it will take them a few months to earn any good amount of points.

Before the show system changed to giving a pay out for points held we would cull show horses BUT we still wouldn’t even look at that horse until they leveled off (roughly when their PT reached their age)

Now that is when the horse is most valuable because it has a lifetime of points being deposited into your account every day
  • I know I'm inpatient lol it's my problem in life in general :\"> but I will learn to be more patient :x

  • its hard to wait but the rewards much outweigh the instant gratification of quick money.

When I first started HJ1 (dinosaurs roamed the earth lol aka 2006) I used the game to teach myself how to build spreadsheets.

I made one that listed how much I had in the bank, different items to buy (different barns, upgrades, IV’s etc) and how long it would take to earn each(programmed to calculate it automatically when I changed the bank balance.

Another tab listed all my horses and when to show them (it was a different show system at the time where you only got money from shows and only if you placed top half of the class. Shows were expensive so you had to figure out the best time to show each horse)

Another tab listed mares and stallions and I sorted mares with the stallions to breed so I had a master list each season.

Now I have way way way too many horses to input each individually on both servers. So I came up with a naming method to help quickly pull mares together with the same generation studs.

It also helps to figure out and narrow down what you want to breed for. Most veterans prefer to keep a 1:3 ratio of breeding horses to show horses. I try to go through my horses quite regularly (I’m 2 months behind thanks to life complications) and trim them down to horses I just can’t wait to breed to. I don’t sell many horses just geld/spay them and toss them into a show barn. I need to go buy another 1000stall show barn but waiting until after SS so I can spoil them first.

  • I have charts as well, but only for breeding ^_^ But this mont is only to create a ton om fundies and put a suitable stud on them. I will go through the mares more carefully next season though. I need to buy a new 30 stall barn every second day aprox now lol

But when my sallaru comes i will buy more pastures :)
Yeah, its gonna be fun to spoil my s.s soon :x
    Which group are you in?
    image
  • I joined the lower 2 groups. I was wanting to join all three because it’s honestly my favourite time of the year but just before the SS entries came out I had about 10 days to find a new vehicle so my bank account is crying just a little lol
  • Oh, sorry to hear
I am in 250-2m group, don't know what to shop for though :D
I'm really exited, this is my second time but last year i where in the lowest group, now i have a new job and another living situation so i'm super happy that i can spoil my s.s :x

  • I'm not a veteran player and so I have limited room to have horses. Im going through the process of correcting my show to breeder ratio. One of the things I do is for my show horses I have them bracketed. By the time I go through my 2 y.o. I would like to see 2pnts. But if they aren't there yet I'm not so strict about it because they haven't had a lot of time to train and show. I believe for 3 yo I use 6 points then 30 then 75 then 100 then 175 then 230 but the time they level off I want to see a daily payout of 50. I do get rid of a lot of my inconsistent show foals. By the time they are 15 I would like them to have a payout of 80 per day so that way they are theoretically paying to replace themselves.
    Thanked by 1FeldingFields
  • Ok i don't have a number for that yet, but maybe i should? I'm still learning the game and tricks to be able to become self-sufficient as soon as posible. I know i need the patience but its so hard lol
