  • I wanted to play something that I used to do in middle school.... One of us starts a story, then me randomly go to the next person and the same story continues. I know we have a lot of stories going on right now, but oh well... Not going to have word counts, but please at least a paragraph each.

I am not guaranteeing participations prizes or anything, but I will check out your wishlist, and try to help you get anything you need if I have it.

Don't feel offended if someone intentionally heads the story in a different way than you. Sometimes that can be part of the fun. Trying to foil one person's "plan" with the story. I'll start with the prompt, but I'm going to try and wait until at least 2-3 people go before I take a full turn. Feel free to go multiple times but please let a few other people go before going again. (I would recommend making people's names extremely simple... otherwise it gets... chaotic....)

Sarah couldn't contain her joy and happiness as she walked down the main street of her beautiful town. This was her first year shopping for Christmas presents all on her own, and she was taking it VERY seriously. She had been walking downtown for several hours now, but had yet to choose a single present. She was about to touch the doornob to one of the shops when a low rumble came from the ground beneath her.....

  • Oh, this might be fun! :)

Sarah's heart leapt into her throat as she turned on her heel, caught unawares.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," an elderly woman sighed in an exasperated tone, "he's such a grouch in this cold weather!"
Sarah's eyes were immediately drawn to the large dog in front of the woman. It was a dirty white colour, but she could see its fur had been meticulously brushed through. His head was hung low and he held his ears back, glaring at nothing and everything.
"Is he all right?" Sarah asked, leaning back from the brooding aura the Pyranese-looking dog was putting out.
The woman waved her off, "Bah, he's fine. He's just mad that I didn't share my coffee with him."
Sarah's brow rose, "Oh, well, I suppose that would do it."

  • Coffee, what a good idea , Sarah thought, for a gift, the mailman would like an insulted mug for his rounds, so she back tracked to the Tea n' Stuff Shop on the corner, thinking on which colour and style would be best.
Again, as she went to touch the shop door the ground rumbled beneath her, she turned expecting to see the lady with her dog again, but to her surprise she saw a handsome gingercat purring loudly on the step. A little girl came along the side walk calling "Here, KittyKitty " . The girl had an adorable hat and mittens in shades of purple, and as she reached to gather her cat the hat slipped off her head. Sarah picked up the hat ready to hand it to the girl. As she handed the hat over she asked why the cat was away from home and the girl told her that he was upset and grouchy today.
Sarah, knowing that animals sense danger before us, began to question the rumblings under ground more seriously. What could it be, what was it upsetting the animals?

  • (Fair warning... I used to write short stories, I LOVE this and I may get to writing too much, so I apologize!)

Cautiously she began to ponder as she stepped inside the Tea n Stuff Shoppe. Sarah couldnt help but notice the salesman was nowhere to be found.

"Hello? Anyone there?" She asked aloud. With no response, she turned and shrugged and made her way down another wall of unique items. Mugs, coffees, teas of all kinds. As she reached the corner, she turned slowly and snickered at a very large mug that had two kittens with mittens on their tails. She touched it briefly, remembering the gingercat from earlier. "Strange, these animals... I wonder what could be bothering them today? It seemed a normal day!"

As she casually rummaged through the vast selections of different shapes and sizes of mugs, she got lost in a memory, suddenly being taken off guard at the overwhelming scent of cedar & mulberry.

She remembered the last time she saw her grandmother. Thinking to herself "My, it's been quite some time since I saw grandma Jane... I wonder what she's been up to lately?" Grandma Jane was a magnificent baker. She always had wonderful pine wreaths in her home, making it seem just a little more cozy. She decorated and refreshed them according to the seasons. Her favorite combination was the loud smelling, deep burgundy colored mulberry pie, and the freshly cut disks of cedar that Grandma Jane placed on the center of the tables. Such a brilliant combination. She noted she must get the pie recipe the next time she saw Grandma Jane.

Just then a sparkle caught her eye. A catty little mug sat alone on a shelf. She went to reach for the mug and she swore she saw the mug twinkle again right in front of her very eyes! "Is this magic?" She thought to herself... shaking her head she grasped the handle to inspect it with a closer eye.

As she peered at the mug, she noticed all the intricate details. It had to have been hand-made. Each brush stroke so unique and vivid, the clay molded just perfectly into shape. It wasnt anything out of the ordinary, in terms of pottery. A simple mug shape, but yet so unique. Large base and strangely bulbous at the bottom, with a slight taper towards the top, a rounded over lip, and the delicate handle, hand-twisted. The mug was glazed with a combination of natural glaze and an extraordinary cobalt blue. But what really caught her eye was the deep, demanding blood red color in the inside. She swore she could feel the heat radiating from within. As she peered inside, she felt herself being lifted into the air, looking around, a rumbling whirlwind, pulling her down into the depths of what lay beyond.

"What is happening to me? Where am I going?! HELP!!" She cried out in vain.

  • Although Sarah screamed, no one heard her desperate cries.

A strange warmth enveloped her body as her vision went dark. She tried talking, but as soon as she opened her mouth an unknown liquid slithered its way down her throat.

A dull ringing filled her ears, reverberating through her entire body.

As fast as her vision had left her, so it had came back. Sarah crashed to the floor with a loud thud, a mist enveloping her body, and as She looked around she saw the hand made mug, sitting shattered, a couple feet out of reach.

She extended her arm, reaching for the shattered mug and cursing under her breath.

A bell rang. Snow flew through the door, landing all throughout the store.

Happy chattering between family members filled Sarah's ears, and to Sarah's happiness, replaced the obnoxious ringing.

But, to her dismay, someone was walking toward her. They didn't look like they were about to stop, either. In fact.. They walked right through her body.

  • Startled, Sarah fell backwards. As she tried to catch herself she winced as a sliver of the clay mug dug into her palm. As she pulled it out, she realized she also did not bleed from her wound.

A combination of fear and astonishment had her on her feet and running, waving her arms in a rash attempt to draw someone's - ANYONE'S attention. She picked up a saucer and threw it at her dad's figure. It fell and crashed to the floor. She blinked. She couldn't believe her eyes... the saucer was right back where it came from. She threw it again. Blinked, and it returned.

"This can't be real..." Sarah groaned, as she collapsed down onto her knees, her head in her hands. A tear falling down her cheek.

Sarah sat there for what felt like eternity. Glancing around, watching her beloved family settle themselves in for a nice Holiday meal. Watching Grandma Jane carefully cut her mulberry pie. Her younger siblings giggling and tossing a ball of yarn back and forth at the table, anxiously awaiting the feast.

She couldn't bear to watch. As she slowly rose, she turned, head hanging and took a couple of steps towards the corner where she came from. Sweeping up the mug into her hands, she gathered every piece and sobbed into the pieces. Wishing her hardest someone would hear her.

Sarah looked up from the mug, just as a strange figure was approaching her, hand extended, and gently wiped away her tear on her cheek.

"Now, thereally Sarah, my dear... don't cry. For this is only the beginning. Things in your life have happened for many reasons, and you haven't paid close enough attention. I fear you've begun to lose yourself. Come now, child. Take my hand, and let us begin." The figure soothingly motioned to Sarah.

Why couldn't she see its face? Who was this? Why did she feel so calm and warm all the sudden? Sarah took a deep breath and extended her hand and placed it in the warm grip of the figure. As she took a step, her world swirled into motion once again.

Startled, she released the hand, gasping, wide-eyed, with a stance easily compared to a jack. She couldn't believe what the figure had brought her to. This wasnt anything like she had expected... these were her own MEMORIES!!

She had opened her eyes to a gorgeous sunset to the horizon. She turned, knowing deep in her heart where she was. She gasped at the beauty of the moment. This was one of her favorite memories of all.

  • But something wasn't quite right. It took her a moment to place it, but once she did, it was quite obvious. Sarah was fairly certain there hadn't been a unicorn silhouetted against the dying sun the first time she had stood here.

  • And then it came to her! She knew of the perfect Christmas gift for her niece. She shook her head and came back to the present although she was still disoriented. Maybe shopping for so long without food was not a good idea.

Quickly she made plans to surprise her niece - Kate by dressing up on of her horses as a unicorn and buying her lessons for a year

  • Most of you I sent straws/eggs, but FeldingFields you have a horse waiting for you in my buddy chat.

Tried to get all of you something off of your wishlists. One of you didn't have a wishlist so I just gave you straws from a closed gene horse with the licenses we share.
