  • I finally figured out my breeding goals and then made this cute lil guy. Except that in a momentary lapse of brain cell usage I made him a warmblood instead of a riding horse. I'm also not super in love with the chestnut, so I was thinking of GMT'ing him to dun. I'm not sure if I should GMT him to a riding horse or if I should use his larger frame as another breeding obstacle? I'd love to hear other's thoughts and opinions on him! image

  • I would fine it a waste of a gmt to make him a riding horse. I just try breeding to lighter mares and just weed out any warmblood foals. Gmt are pricy and I use them as wisely as I can now.
I think the dun would look good on him though. That would be harder to breed into the line instead of bone. At least I think so. But Im sure an older player would have better advice. Just my one penny though.
  • First off I would BA him. If he doesn't pass BA then he shouldn't be bred from. It's also free, so worth it for basically all foundations.

Second, his bone is relatively on the light end. Warmbloods go from 1.5 to 2.4 bone wise, and your boy is 1.88. Breeding him to mares with very light bone should work well

  • Thank you, MakeMeABird! That's kind of what I was leaning towards. I have no problem with snipping foals or sending them to auction if the barns are starting to get full. I think I will try to GMT him to dun though.
  • ObsidianKitsune, whew I didn't realize I didn't put him through BA! He just passed though, fortunately. I didn't realize he was on the lighter end, so my light mares should help with that! Thank you so much!
  • If you like sb1, maybe try to find an Autumn's Arrival RS (they are hom sb1 on a variety of base coats and guaranteed perfect foundation quality). They pop up pretty frequently on the Herd Helper board. Or, if you put out an ISO, someone probably has an extra riding horse stud hanging around!
