Breeding Lab Success?
-
Ok so who has ever had success with the breeding lab? I have bred a ton of foals and none of them come out in tact.
I have all of these straws that I’ve put money into, and anytime I get a foal I want for my lines, it comes out snipped.
What’s the formula for getting good foals in the breeding lab? Is there a point to breed in the breeding lab if all the foals are no good without a pasture bonus? It’s frustrating because there’s only so many pretty show ponies I can have before I start getting down in the dumps because I can’t improve my lines, too. I wish I could get a fair flow of both, but that’s not the case. Which really makes it hard to reach breeding goals (which is part of the game as much as collecting show ponies) and is disheartening.
I’ve bred some of the best mares I have to some great stallions and they still come out snipped. And it’s not that cheap for a new barn to be in the breeding lab in the first place.
I need help because if this keeps happening, I’m just gonna give my straws away and stop using the lab for good. -
The breeding lab has the exact same results as live cover. It seems like you've just had bad luck!
The best way to get an intact out of breeding horses is to match their paper level. C/Yellow, B/Red, A/Blue, Star/Gold. Because of how expensive it is I almost always do this, just to maximize my chances of an intactProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

At the beginning of this month I cleared out my freezer by creating 100 embryos. I think maybe 10 were intact. Possibly 20. Definitely gotta match paper levels.
Just today I implanted two embryos one passed SBA and one didn't.

Hand breeding/lab breeding is exceptionally harder than pasture breeding. In pasture the mares have their bonus. But it is hard to get intact foals via the lab/hand breeding. I'd say a good ratio of intact to snipped for lab breeding would be 3:10. Sometimes you get more and sometimes you don't get any. There is a lot of luck involved in it
-
Oh! Another tip: If you want your lab foals to have a higher chance of passing, don't SBA them, just BA them. If they pass BA, they'll be fine to breed from.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

^Yes this is great advice! (Unless you're me and you SBA everything because you're ruthless :)) Then i cull on papers... So a drop dead gorgeous filly could pas SBA but paper Red at 3G and she would get the snip. This is why my lab numbers are usually 1:1000000 :)) )

I've always had AMAZING luck with lab breeding, and terrible luck with pasture breeding for some reason (even with a full bonus)
So like the other players said, its pretty much just luck.
(Roughly out of the 20 embryos I created this month, only one failed SBA- and that's because I used a B and Yellow foundie together)Thanked by 1AHayesHorses -
Thanks guys. Maybe it is just bad luck.
I’ve matched paper levels and the whole nine. I feel like right now it’s too much of a money drain. I’ve never gotten an intact with hand breeding or lab breeding so I’m getting to where I just don’t do it. Most were snipped after BA. because I usually don’t do SBA on something I really like lol -
The breeding lab IS a money drain. It is not something small stables need to be doing at all, to be honest. I do a LOT of lab breeding, but I always ask for a minimum of 5 straws from each, preferably 10. If I have 10 straws from a stallion I am usually left with 1, or maybe 2 breedable foals in the end.

That's why I charge a higher price for my studs to offer guaranteed straws - not that it helps little barns because expensive straws + expensive breeding costs
-
@Cadieness But the fact that you offer guaranteed straws is awesome. I’m willing to pay for straws. As long as I get something out of it. Lol! It’s the paying for straws and not getting atleast one intact that annoys meThanked by 1cadieness

lol, and I don't like guaranteed straws at all. Way to much upkeep :)) I would rather buy many regular ones.
-
@Maribo, to each their own I guess. I think it’s a good service to offer but if I’m honest I think I’m just gonna not use the breeding lab lol
It’s an easy problem to fix I guess. Avoid anything other than pasture breeding until I can afford to take losses :)>- -

This. It was created to suck money out of accounts. It's for big barns with cash to burn.

Good to know lol

My own strategy, with hand or lab breeding, is: when foals continue being snipped in one session, stop breeding and come back to it another day. This is under the assumption that luck can run in streaks and pausing for a break has a chance of changing the luck. Then my challenge is to remember what it was I intended to come back to. Alas, these gray hairs that let the thoughts slide out of my brain. *G*
But, it did seem to work.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Lol to Ammit :)
I have never flushed eggs, I have only used one egg that was gifted me. I occasionally buy straws but they need to be cheap for me.
My other 2 accounts don't use the breeding lab at all.
Don't get me wrong, it is fun but pasture bonus is the way to go to get good quality foals and I learnt a long time ago the advanced breed lab is costly and a good way of getting frustrated if you are struggling with hbs :) -
I'm currently hoarding eggs and straws for when I can afford it better. I have some spendy horses that I want to have more babies from in the future, so I pull as many eggs as I can, and if I can flush them, I do. I've also had some very generous people split the cost for some of the eggs, which I'm very happy to do. I'm happy to hold onto my embryos until I can use them later, or until I win a big lotto or make a big sale. :) Then I go on a bit of an implant spree if I don't have something else big I'm saving for. :)Thanked by 1Dinascar

Ditto to that, @ChevalStables! I'm not at the point where I can consistently play around with the breeding lab, but I am getting to the point where I can every so often implant embryos with spare hbs, expect show horses, and bounce for joy when I get something good, lol!
Of course, that hoarding means I've hit the point where I have so many eggs and straws I don't even know what goes to what! I wish I could view the donors in a search! :))ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
