Weren't We Just Talking About A Stolen HH? *SOLVED*
  • I rolled an HH last night. Remembered someone who I wanted to share that specific RS HH with. I PMed them the link, they weren't on, but I knew they would be at some point. I didn't specify which HH it was, I just asked them to click it. I checked before I fell asleep last night, and they hadn't clicked it. So, this morning, I check to see if they clicked it, because I was going to do something. It had been shared, but I forgot to see who with. I went back to the page, and it wasn't that player it was shared with. So, I ran to the forum to make sure I didn't accidentally share it under HHs. I didn't. I don't know if I should contact the person who got it and ask how they got it, or what to do...

  • Ok so the other day I tried to do that thing where you type in the traditional heard helper link plus a ton of random numbers at the end, to see if it worked and sure enough, it popped up a heard helper. It wasn’t a RS but I suppose all it takes is that lucky time. I’m guessing that’s how these players are doing it. I can’t say on what to do, as I’m sure that’s admin territory.

  • Ammit popped onto that thread to explain that HHs can't be stolen and that it's not against the rules to grab an HH that wasn't shared.

  • @SeldomSeen
Ah. Thank you! I missed that comment. I had checked it later, and didn't see her comment.
I mean... I get that HHs aren't secret, yeah. But I don't fully understand how it's still classified as "okay" for players to do what almost seems like cheating to me. I know it's not exactly cheating, no, but still. If we didn't "share" it, I don't feel others should be able to get them this way. But that's my opinion. It just doesn't seem right for players to be able to do this and it still be considered fair. I get it really can't be controlled much, but still in all. I mean, I don't do this, as I don't think it's right, but what others do, and what Admin think is okay, isn't my business to judge here. So, I'll hush.

  • Honestly I agree with you, @SpryOfJune. But that’s why I take it upon myself to just not do that kind of thing. It doesn’t seem fair to me.
  • I'm of the same mind @SpryOfJune. It makes those "Guess the RS" games kind of pointless. But as long as the vast majority of us choose not to do it it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Or as I like to say, just because life's not fair doesn't mean we have to make it not fair.

  • So all someone has to do to game the system is just keep changing the number? That doesn't seem fair to other players or in keeping with the good economics of the game. If you didn't share the HH someone else shouldn't be able to use it. I find it rather appalling that Ammit says that is ok for someone to be doing this but if she's spoken on it then so shall it be.

Personally. I'd like to know who the person is that is doing that so I can make it a point not to interact with them in any way in game. I'd like to think a majority of our players like @SeldomSeen said are better then that so it hopefully shouldn't be too much of an issue though it is frustrating that behavior like that is seen as ok when we do things like "Guess the RS" and someone could just come in and take it. That is bad sportsmanship all around.

  • I really feel like it's cheating, not only that but its extremely unfair.
  • I have to agree with what you all are saying. I don’t often roll Rank specials but when I do I like to share them with players who have helped me out or I know will make use of them. That kind of defeats the purpose if there’s a player (or players) on here who will type in numbers and take it without notice. Isn’t that a way of cheating the “reroll herd helpers for 5k” system?
  • The thing is with how the HH's are set up it'll be very difficult to stop behaviour like this. The entire system for HH's might need to be changed if they try, since all you need to do is to change the random sequence of numbers.

  • Maybe a good idea, which many people may not like, would be to make the Rank Specials not a part of heard helpers anymore?

Since I know at one point you could only get Rank Specials during certain events— maybe it should go back to that?

That way Rank Specials also become more valuable and special. But there won’t be anymore guess the RS games and I’m sure some other cons that I’m not thinking of... but that’s the only way I could think of eradicating the problem entirely.

Then again I haven’t been here long so I’m not well versed in how the economy works or how it should work.

I just decided I’d never do the typing in random numbers thing. Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should. I wouldn’t want that done to me so I certainly wouldn’t do it to Someone else. Especially in a community that’s so helpful and kind.

  • One thing I have noticed with the RS being more likely to pop up with HH's is that the price of them has dropped. Used to be you couldn't pay 10k for a RS under 4 years old, no matter the RS. Now it's a very plausible price for many of them. Removing them from the HH would make their price sky rocket again.

  • I don’t know if it should be condoned simply because it’s too hard to stop people from doing it...
That’s a worthwhile idea if it would increase the value of Rank Specials again. Right now they’re virtually worthless and difficult to get rid of unless people collect them. Perhaps they could be like candy ponies and pop up in random creates rather than being rolled as Herd Helpers.
  • That’s what I’m thinking. I used to play on HJ1 a LONG looong time ago. And I do remember Rank Specials going for like $15k and $25k and people got more excited for them. They certainly had more value. Even a basic black Brindle was an exciting drop that could sell for $25k. I recently sold a black Brindle to auction for $2500. That would have been unheard of back then.

I found that for people who didn’t have money for those special special genes (me at the time), the RS they got during holidays were synonymous to having something special in your heard— not as special as Ice or S+ or satin, but still special. Now I’ll admit, it’s kind of hard to get that feeling, especially with foundations, unless you pay real money. I own a ton of RS and still don’t feel like I have anything that special and valuable as far as genes and colors go.

And I also remember being able to use RS horses as a way to earn money when I needed it. If I needed $100k I just sold like 4 or 5 of my RS and I was in the club. This was helpful for smaller barns. And it also helped those who wanted the RS ;) It was a win win.

It’s a good option to consider in my very humble opinion... and I especially like the candy pony drop idea.

I’d imagine you don’t want to create an economy where nothing is special unless you have real money to spend. And honestly there’s not many horse genes in this game you can get that are super special unless you pay real money or tons and tons of game money. But I don’t remember it used to be that way.... And that kind of takes away a certain very special aspect to the game.

I think making them like candy drops is a wonderful idea because it adds a little excitement. Just enough. And the value should still hold on the RS.

I feel like there are a lot of people trying to maintain that RS are still as special as they used to be— but if you add the fact that anyone can use the HH even without clicking the link, they kinda start to become a little more lack luster.

  • It’s just a friendly suggestion :) lol

A while ago new players were talking/asking about RSs and cost and ammit said (something to the gist of) there is no reason for them to be that high cost since they are just foundations whose base cost [like all the rest] should be 2500, pricing for rarity or fancy colors sure, but she said their prices were high and ridiculous. (Granted. I am heavily paraphrasing and this was forever ago. But I think the RS in HH is making them a good, or better, more normal price.)

  • Ah ok.

Well I guess that helps make Show Horses more valuable. With that thinking, the focus should be showing and showing ability if you’re wanting a valuable horse, rather than breeding for color. That’s not a bad thing. But also no genes on foundations should cost that much then. Because RS are supposed to be “Specials” lol so if the special ones aren’t that special... well that kind of devalues the other genes too (aside from liscensed genes)

Not that any of that is a bad thing, perhaps that was the goal because people ignored the value of show ponies and put too much value into color.

In real life, horses are more valuable based on show ability, show record, ability to produce show horses, etc. very few are priced based on breed or color. So it kind of makes it closer to real life. Which makes sense.

I think as far as the using the HH goes, it sucks but it’s not against the rules.. and so I guess the best solution is to just agree to not do it lol
  • Whether or not you find it appalling there is no way to enforce such a restriction. I am not going to punish people for something that can't be enforced. I have never said it was good sportsmanship to do that. Just that they are not secret and there is nothing I can do here.

I have always discouraged the guess the rank special games because of such issues, but have always been ignored and finally gave up. If it can't be enforced I am not sure what you guys expect me to do.

In a hypothetical future, we could completely rewrite how the herd helper system works from the ground up to make these secret but I don't see us having the time for that right now. Not when the new layout is taking all of our resources.
  • And yes the value for creatable herd helpers was intentionally reduced because they were way overpriced. There are some herd helpers that can only be created on certain days of the year and those are still quite valuable.
  • I have found that a few persons who took my herd helpers are selling them in the likes if 25+k.. now weather they'll get that for them or not is to be seen, but I still think it's a rude move to try and take someones HH share just to sell it for five times the price you got it at.
My neice wanted an Autumn's arrival and I waited four months to roll one only to have it taken and now asking so much for it? Kinda seems rude to me. So as it may not be against the rules, I think the majority of us see it as unfair and have decided against doing it ourselves. Some are even going as far as to disassociate with the players that do this.
Thanks for everyone who loves this game and tries too keep it fun and loving! :)
