GMT extra DP question- answered
-
I finally saved enough IVs to add an extra copy of DP to my Hidden Gates project. Since he already has one copy, I wasn’t sure whether to add to the sire or dam side. So I just picked the first one and added it. I was charged 10 GMT tokens which means I assume that a copy of DP was added. Trouble is, I didn’t see any difference in the before and after. I know it’s difficult to see on chocolate palomino pearl, but usually I can see a darker hue. With him, nothing.
Here’s my stupid question; if DP is untestable, how do I know it definitely added a copy instead of say removing it or leaving him the same? If I had any more tokens, could I attempt to add DP to both the sire and dam alleles and expect neither one to charge me? Should I just breed him to a handful of hom Sooty mares and make sure the foals are all DP? I took a screenshot of the before and after but don’t know how to add it to a forum post from my phone. But this is what he looks like now. I think I might be done working on him but I’ll think about it for a couple days.

Been there and can answer this. If you are attempting to add a copy of DP to an allele that already has it, you will get a message saying something to the effect it cannot be added to this allele. It will not, however, take the copy of DP away, at least it didn’t to me. (And if it took the DP away, he wouldn’t be a Chocolate anymore unless you got a lucky hom DP) He could look “not as dark” because of the dun gene he is carrying, it dilutes the color.

The “hidden genes” never can be removed, only added. You know he already had one copy because he was “chocolate”, so you just got lucky on guessing which of the two alleles he didn’t have it on. As Fallen says, it’ll just say “error” if you try and add DP (or KP/GP/SNF) to the side that already has it.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time. -
Well that’s a relief, thanks guys :) It took me a very long time to get those 10 tokens, I didn’t want them to be wasted. Now to decide if there’s anything else I want to add to him!
