-
*CLOSED*
Thanks for participating everyone!
I woke up to snow yesterday and it is currently -5 Celcius (23 Farenheit) outside.
Now, I live in northern Canada and though our winters are long and come early, this is a wee bit earlier than usual, even for us.
Winter is my favourite time of year and I love snow chilly weather. You will find me out and about in -40 like the crazy person that I am but.....
I am not ready! It is too early! My poor tomaotes!!! :-((
To make myself feel better I am sharing the snow with you!
For the next 24 hrs, anyone interested in straws from my snowflake stud can have them for pull price.
Just comment with your player ID# and how many straws you would like.

No not snow! I’m still waiting for my summer vacation!
Although when I lived in northern Ontario I loved summer and winter. Now that I’m in southern Ontario I hate winter because it never gets cold enough to freeze every thing and it’s just constant wet and the cold feels way colder than the actually colder but dry temps of the north.
Can I get 5 straws each to falling dust and the last het snowflake g4

@Bandit1119
I hear you! I am up in northern Alberta. I was born up here so I love the winters and the dry climate makes such a huge difference in being able to handle it.
I could not do southern Ontario. Your hot humid summers would kill me. I don't do well in anything over 25C and that is a dry 25. LOL!
And cold with humidity is a gross combo. It goes straight to your bones!
I lived in the Lower Mainland B.C. and that was enough of a taste of warm and humid for me.
I wish we were getting a share of that heatwave that you guys are getting back east though. This is mid/late October weather not September!
@Painted Dreams
Oh! Those dapples! :x
I would love to try some straws from Everest. He is so gorgeous!!
I technically don't breed for browns but I have a major softspot for the super dark sooty browns and have been looking for an excuse to keep some in my barns. His babies are simply gorgeous!
Can I try 3 straws for now?

Howdy fellow Albertan! :D
Mmmm... chilli sounds so good. I might need to put in a request to my roomie. He makes a killer chilli and I have some peppers that barely made it that can be used to kick it up a notch or two.
I have all my green toms in boxes in the basement to ripen. I was lucky and pulled everything the day before we got that dump of snow. Not that the harvest has been great. Everything seems to have been set back this year with the spring and summer we had.ID# 47364

Wow! I didn’t expect such an awesome response! You guys are great!
Sorry for the delay. I have been suffering from that mysterious site lag that has been popping up and have only just now been able to get everything pulled and sent without it being an hours long ordeal of stalled/half loaded pages.
@BlueValley
Another Albertan! :D
I agree. I love winter but prefer it to come closer to the usual expected time. At least it looks like we will be up in the double digits again by next week. I am hoping for things to warm up towards the end of the month and maybe stay that way for a week or two. Is that too much to ask? We all know it can flip at any time. I have seen snow in every month except July. ;)
I remember as a kid always having to choose a costume that was big enough to fit over a snowsuit and remember a couple of years trick or treating via skidoo.
@Amour33
Would most certainly love to send some cooler temps your way! Ugh!! That sounds awful! I do not do heat very well at all and when you add humidity to it I am done. I am quite sure I would perish if I had to deal with that type of weather on a regular basis. LOL!
@DandiLove
Sending you all the pretty snowflakes!
I would love to visit Louisiana one day. Just not in the summer. ;)
I have always wanted to explore some bayous
How are you guys holding up with Florence? I know you are not in the direct path but it must be scary.

Howdy fellow Canadian!
The furthest east I have ever travelled is Manitoba (unless you count Toronto Airport). I am hoping to make a roadtrip in that direction in the next few years. I am dying to see Algonquin and make my way over to the Maritimes.
@MistStables
Texas is another State I need to visit. My mum’s late second husband was Texan and she wants to plan a trip down to scatter his ashes.
So glad you love the first baby! :)
@Amgr1992
I am lucky to have a decent paying job and don’t do much extraneous spending so I was able to create Pyroclastic during the Spring Refresh event. I love him so much but I am finding snowflake to be a bit daunting to work with and have not used this poor boy much.
If/when you do get the chance to create your own snowflake foundation my biggest piece of advice is don’t make the mistake I did and not gene him to be hom lp. It is my biggest regret with this boy.
@Seaswell
Everywhere east around the Great Lakes seems to be having some hot weather this fall.
You guys must get a fair amount of snow in the winters. Or is it dryer?
@WhiteMountain
I love the West Coast but I do not miss all the rain.

We usually get a handful of feet spread out over the winter, with 2-3 decent storms over winter and one in the spring. Most of the time it's what I call to cold for snow... dry and calls for layers. Compared to many of the places I've lived around the U.S. we get a short mud season before beautiful occasionally humid summers. When I was a kid we got more snow here for the bigger storms, but our plow system is amazing. Need to drop over two feet an hour to slow traffic to a crawl.45120Thanked by 1BlackWyld
-
Thanks @BlackWyld! We probably won't even get rain from Florence lol. I'm in North Louisiana, so we have next to no worries about hurricanes, no matter their size, even if they hit the Louisiana coast line. All it means for us is a good long rain. We may lose power for a little bit but that's all. I think the worst that has happened to us is a couple roads got flooded out when Harvey stalled over us, so we had to break out the 4x4s to find alternate routes to town. It's beautiful down here for sure, but if you love winter I wouldn't recommend coming in the summer lol. Youll likely feel like you're at hells gates lol.Thanked by 1BlackWyld

I like the heat and love when it’s 23-25C but the humidity kills me too and this summer has been a killer for humidity.
I work at a hockey rink and we take out one of the ice pads over the summer and put it back in beginning of August for a hockey school. With the weather so hot and humid the compressors are having a heck of a time trying to keep the ice cold without overheating themselves. Also there’s normally about a 2 week period when we first put the ice in that we deal with fog and condensation while the air humidity equalizes between the 2 rinks because there isn’t enough air circulation from bodies skating around while we are painting and building the ice. Less than a week after rentals starts it clears up. We put the ice in the first week of August and it’s still raining inside the building.
The Jr. C hockey team had their home opener yesterday and I had to go around squeegeeing the glass off so the fans could see the game. The top half of the glass was still foggy but by the end of the game most of the places people were standing near were clear and not dripping.Thanked by 1BlackWyld -

I live in Indiana and the weather is so unpredictable, it could be 80 degrees Fahrenheit one day, the next 60 and by the end of the week it snows. I love the heat, but I’m not of fan of the cold or winter. I don’t think I’d survive a week where you live :PBounty warmbloods and Riding horses {Nexus~Wrong Warp~Pearl~Ice~sooty+ & kitm}

Thanks everyone! This has been a blast!
@Seaswell
That doesn’t sound too bad at all!
I remember much more snow up here when I was a kid as well. We get less now, the dryer climate helps with that a lot, but even so when it comes to plowing it often seems like they have some issues at the first few snows of the year. Mostly it is due to the ever present cutbacks. I mean, it isn’t like they are not expecting winter to happen. LOL
@DandiLove
Gates of Hell indeed! I have heard enough about your summers to believe that would be absolutely true! LOL
I am glad that you guys are not affected. I have some friends in Florida that I am worried about.
@Bandit1119
Ugh! I could not imagine dealing with that. I am actually having a hard time imagining it at all. I haven’t gone to too many hockey games (I am a horrible excuse for a canuck) and I can’t envision steamed up rink glass. It sounds like a nightmare and a great breeding ground for mildew and stale air.
Around 25C is my cap for warmer weather as long as it stays dry. Add humidity and I am a pathetic, miserable mess.
@Gracie3B
Our weather can be fairly unpredictable here as well. This time of the year there is a meme that goes around that I am sure Indiana has adapted to themselves too:
Mother Nature: You cannot fit all four seasons into a single week!
Alberta: Hold my beer….
I personally have experienced snow at least once in every month of the year except July. (I was living in another province the year it snowed in July) ;)
@Riata
I am happy to share in a way that doesn’t share the cold too!
Shoveling snow is definitely not my favourite! The neighborhood where I am living now has a lot of great neighbours, this includes a few gentlemen who loooove their “toys”, so usually I am lucky enough to have one neighbor or another come by with their quad or snow blower to show off their new machine. When that is not the case you will still often see neighbours teaming up with the shovels and sharing the work to get a bunch of driveways done at one time.
I know Texas has gotten some freak snowfalls in the last few years. Were you affected by any of those?
@Amour33
What a beautiful little filly!! I can’t wait to see her all grown up!
I have some eggs from FallenShadows’ mares as well. I will have to get in the breeding lab soon while I still have some spare cash.

Lol I’m not a hockey fan either. I only watch when I need to (to be ready to resurface the ice when the period ends) or if I’m really really bored at work lol. The foggy glass didn’t really affect the spectators watching in the stands since they’re above the glass but there’s always a bunch of people (normally associated with the club or team) that prefer to watch up close and stand at the boards. When there’s enough people heating up the air and moving it around it clears up. But we have to be more vigilant checking the ice before rentals if there’s dead time since the condensation dripping off the ceiling either eats holes in the ice or makes mountains that need to be filled in or chipped off.Thanked by 1BlackWyld

Thank you for the straws, @BlackWyld! Here is my first Falling Dust foal:
5G TX 2941934
Thank you for these straws : ) I'm saving my Pyroclastic straws for my ExPro mare The Valkyrie, who comes of breeding age next month. I can hardly wait to see their babies!
We have been hit by a few snowprises in my part of Texas, but usually I happen to be back in Missouri visiting family when it happens : )
My favorite TX-Snow memory was the snow my dogs were SO excited about (they all love snow, so they're clearly not my blood-related children!). We got really fat flakes that covered the ground quickly, but just barely, so it looked a lot more impressive than it was.
One of the pups ran outside to bury her face in the snow, and was SO disappointed at the lack of depth. She kept poking it with her paw and looking at me like "make it snow more! This is a joke!"
Looking for Appaloosas? Check out my Riata account. -
Oops, I was still logged in to Alohomora. I made a second Falling Dust foal! He was gelded, but I love his coloring and PT, so I'm very happy he'll be in my show pony string!
