Kit Promoter help, Please.
  • By chance I checked the KP breeders club and I had this spayed filly to register. This means both her parents are het KP ? She is only the second one I own and the stallion I own is not in her pedigree. The horse named Happily seems to be a common denominator , I wondered if anyone knew where the KP was coming from. Old ice, darkstar, and kintara bred. Thank you.

  • Ok, so yes, both parents must be het for KP. That’s a starting point.

  • I’m going back through the pedigree to see if I can find where the KP is from but man is that a pedigree!

  • If you have Dark Star bred horses in your lines that's most likely where the KP is coming from. I randomly discovered that both of my Dark Star bred studs are at least het KP. I had some foals come out hom KP so now every time I produce a new KP foal I mark their parents.

  • A source for KP in that pedigree could easily be the Dark Star horses since several of her lines carry KP, including Skip Jack. I have a colt from his lines that's hom KP, so I know it's there. :)

I looked and didn't see any others obviously KP in your filly's pedigree, but it can be very sneaky. A horse has to be hom KP and have two 'on' kit genes for it to show up. lol

  • Vested Knight in Happily's pedigree is a KP carrier.

  • Ok...

    So

Dark Star noted in DS4 Palpatine’s notes that he’s a KP carrier. I know DS Dark Sun Rising was a KP carrier and he’s all over the place in the Foundation line of this girl’s pedigree on the sire side. So is KTF Arctic Shine who was also a foundation KP carrier...so on the sire side it could come from his sire line or his dam line (see below).

On her Dam side, I’m sure it’s coming from Happily use5g. It’s all over his sire side, again way way back and not apparently, on a quick scan, ever expressed. He’s got a lot of those same Dark Sun Rising lines running around.

    So:

I think Happily is definitely a KP carrier. Think, don’t know, but I’m probably 99% sure. He’s on both sides of the pedigree so it may all be from him.

Whether DS Fault in our Stars or one of the mares in the sire line is a silent carrier, I’m just not sure. Without doing some test breeding, I wouldn’t want to speculate. Fault definitely could be a carrier, in the sense that it’s definitely in his foundation but that’s soooooo far back that it’s impossible to say without test breeding.

I hope that’s helpful. If you want to do some test breeding, I’m happy to get you some straws or eggs from Hom KP Horses, or put some up for breeding. They would be desperately uneven crosses, but with some luck and some GMT experimentation you could see who is definitely a carrier if they have at least 1 Kit pattern.

  • Thank you all, I marked her parents as kp, now I will have to see if I have any other Happily off spring to try with Window Frame :)

  • My hom KP stallion is w3 , lots of Happily's daughters are wM,
so yes please Cheers, I will take some straws if they are safe with kit M. Huge Thank you for the offer.

  • @Cheers I actually didn't even go through Fault's pedigree after I saw the sire of that black sabino mare, 1088040. lol That's what I was referring to when I mentioned DSW Skip Jack and said the filly above could have gotten KP from her Dark Star lines. DSW Skip Jack's grandsire, DS7 Precedent, is KP, and DSW Skip Jack's son B Jack Knife is proven het KP. :)

  • @supersarah, I have these 2 uneven breeding age boys (neither are BAed) if you would like to use them. I also have a 2yr colt.

  • LOL that pedigree was a bit big for me to go through! But a lot of mine have Kp if my horses are back in there, and of course as said there is a lot of Kp in Darkstar lines too, but still a good find!

  • Holy pedigree, Batman! Cheers, you're amazing.
  • Straws are up for you. PM me if you want any more in the future.
