I got this boys beautiful mother from Wildland Acres and bred her to one of the higher Star stallions that came up on the breeding search.
I am simply in love with this little colt and, as one of the highest papered studs that I have, I would like to use him in my bootstrap line.
BW Shattered Illusions
Do you think there is any posibility of him passing BA?ID# 47364
Breeding for all version of black drafts. (Including black liver)
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.
I work a 7day on 7day off schedule and my activity here will reflect that.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me. -
Probably not. It is barely possible that he might pass if he is at the very top of the A range and both parents are at the bottom of the star/gold range, but even if that is the case, he is a step backward in papering from both of his parents.I was jllewis on the old forum.

I think OndowaStables has the right idea.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I would have thought his quality wouldn't be worth much to bootstrap either being only A papered
-
Most of my bootstrap studs have been A papered. I only just got a couple of star boys this last season.
I am new enough that I only have had foundie mares to put them to anyway. I have one more season before my first set of g2 fillies become breeding age.ID# 47364

When you bootstrap you can breed to the highest level you have available. The process is faster with a Star stud, but the principle is the same even if you're breeding yellow mares to an A or B stud to improve their showing ability.Thanked by 1BlackWyld

Yup! Honestly, even though the climb isn’t quite as quick, it still works great for getting the genes you want, and if you’re lucky you might get a superior or even a low star colt out of a red or blue that can be your replacement bootstrap stud.
My bootstrap pasture this year is covered by two boys: one a homebred star from a lucky dark star straw, the other a lovely A hom satin boy to put more satin in the bunch. I’m expecting to be able to replace the satin boy with his son, a hom satin star I was lucky enough to breed this season, but that’s two years out while I wait for him to grow up. By that point, I’m also expecting at least one superior to sire colt from the other star boy, as my pasture is mostly blues by now.
After a certain point, bootstrapping becomes just like normal breeding with the colts replacing their sires. An A stud will just hit that point faster than a star will.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.Thanked by 1GeneverGinger
