I want to breed a range of horses like this, this is what I want to be known for but they all have different colour names, so what can I call this so I know how to advertise in the future.

  • Vault Of Stars are usually Tobiano Appaloosa'a with splash and frame like this guy

    X RS Vault Of Glass

So you could go for Tobiano Appaloosa's

  • Here is my Tobiano Appaloosa

And be careful with frame. Two with frame bred together will result in a dead foal.
  • So these three horses don’t have much in common color/pattern wise, so it’s hard to tell what you’re looking for.

The white mottled looking markings on Bashaan is from his Sabino. He also has some appy marking on top of her rump. He’s a dark, DP palomino pearl, meaning he’s got both cream and pearl. He’s also brindle which gives him that faintly vertical striping.

Forbidden also has some appy markings on his rump and fairly typical Tobiano (paint or pinto markings). His dappled gray base color will fade with time until he’s mostly white.

Dark Pepper’s markings are mostly a result of Splash and Frame. Frame does very cool things with most white spotting and splash markings, but is Lethal when homozygous so it can be tricky to breed for/with.

Vault of Stars also has the splash Frame combination, as well as W2, Tobiano and appy. It’s a great combination of markings I think, and would produce a lot of variety in foals.

If you wanted to breed for a lot of horses with similar markings to a Vault of Stars but came in lots of different colors, I would find a Vault of Stars stallion who is eE or Ee. This would mean he could throw black based and red based foals. I would then breed him to a wide variety of mares in lots of different base colors, which should give you a wide variety of color in your foals. I would avoid mares with Frame (Olw) and I would probably also use very few mares with W1 or W2, since those could be risky crosses with a stallion with W2, Splash and Frame already. Mares with Appy already would Up your chances of the foals getting that gene.

You’ve got some very handsome boys here and they should throw you a wide variety of cool looking foals.

  • I wish I could word everything like that.

  • yes I accidentally got 4 lethal foals this breeding season not thinking who I was crossing. (4 isnt a lot to you guys with huge herds but i run a herd of 77 so it was heart breaking) So thank you @Xceptional and @Cheers I'm still new so still learning I just want to breed fun colours and Ice genes, so trying to figure out how to word my "colour" so I can start looking for high papers mares and stallions that carry that selected gene so I can start this little herd. one broke pay day at a time lol

  • Im so going to do that, thank you for the handy hints.

  • Unless your breeding for show horses it’s better to look for lower papers when your just starting out.

You’ll get more intact foals crossing reds and B’s than stars and blue or gold because by the time your into that level there can be a large difference in quality so the foals need to be even better than the lowest parent to stay intact so more heart break when your breeding for more intact breeders.

If you are just bootstrapping never mind lol then you go for the highest level horses you can and don’t test.
  • Okay so just stick to any any every horse I want. I BA all my horses now. So start low and work up? @Bandit1119

  • So because I breed all my horses in pasture (I'm stingy) A little note wasn't going to help so all horses carrying Frame have a certain background fingers crossed for next year <3

  • A background for your frames will help. And nothing stingy about pasture breeding. Most of us do it!
  • I pastures breed almost all my horses! Nothing wrong with that at all! :)
  • I also only pasture breed lol. I personally mark my horses with lethal genes right in their name. So frame horses get an f at the end of their name,, horses with lethal white genes get a w, etc.
  • Lethal white is w20 correct?

  • Lethal white is frame, but other genes can have a lethal interaction. W20 is usually pretty safe with just about anything :)
  • I have a special tattoo (a broken heart) that I put on all my potentially lethal colored breeding stock (Frame mostly, I don't use W2).

  • I've been playing for 4 years and I dont have a name for my color lines.

I breed DP and champagne specifically but I also toss in other patterns like roan, pangere, tobiano, sabino, white 3 and white2, rabicano, and splash frame.

Here's one of my champagne herd sires. His color line was simply called Arusa Spouse until today when I remembered to rename it.
This line is champagne and in the past I always say it and thought of pearl horses which can be expensive. Champagne is a lot cheaper and looks very similar. So I name it CG PoorMan'sGold
The line is a jumble of patterns because it "belongs" or is inspired by my spouse. I let him help me pick who to breed and what to add

This is my newest DP herd sire. His line is simply called "CG Dense Phenomenon" its simple and makes it easier for other stables to see what Gene's my horses possess and what they are primarily used for

You could always breed for more specific lines and then cross them every so often.

  • Thank you everyone for your help, could you possibly explain what dp means? I head it a lot and don't understand.

  • I have all of my mares with dangerous white genes in their own pasture named Dangerous Whites and they only get a visit from a solid or Appy boy.

I'll let someone else explain DP in detail...I understand it but it takes awhile to explain...the simple answer is that is makes red pigment darker and when combined with hom Sooty in ee horses leads to Liver Chestnuts and Chocolate Palominos.
