Watercolour?
-
I'm looking at getting watercolor but I have a few questions first.
Is the colour random? Or is it influenced by the horses base coat colour?
I'm also having a hard time picking out a stallion to make my water colour stud. Should I look for an RS 3yr old and under stallion to purchase/create? -
Random. You can reroll until you get a color you like.ID# 24891

@RubyJoFarm Thank you! That helps make my decision easier :)

I would suggest yes, look for a youngish stud if you plan on possibly adding other genes later.
The beautiful thing is that you can buy the gene and put it on a very young critter and still use semen/eggs off other watercolor or buy mares and start building your herd even the same day.
And I'd even sell you a pack of 6 straws to get you started. 2 from my Foundation. 2 from my G2. And 2 from my G3. :)ID# 24891

Thank you!

So the color you get is completely random? There isn’t a correlation between the black/red genes or sooty genes and the color? I might be more interested in buying it if that’s the case

Blacks and chestnuts are solid, bays get different colored points but the colors have nothing to do with the horses color.
Well except white patterns, they show through normally :D●▬▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

I LOVE watercolors now, but at first I didn't see the point. When I started playing I was all, "Pink and green horses? Seriously? Why?" but they grew on me. lol I bought a gelding at auction just because he was a cute leopard appy, then rerolled trying to get more spots on him and imagine my surprise when he went from bright purple to green, too! :)) The fact you can change their color any time you want to for 100hbs makes them fun show ponies that never get old or boring, at least to me. Now I have a nice little string of watercolor show ponies I've picked up as I can, and I just got my first intact watercolor today \:D/ so I can show you a nice variety.
One thing to remember is that any color variations you'd see in a 'plain' horse will usually be echoed in the watercolor version, just in pastel shades. My new colt isn't anything impressive yet, but he's going to get a makeover in a month or two and get spotty. ;) He's a rather plain amber champagne dun base color, so went from pale cream with dark brown legs, mane, and tail to this:
I Vincent Van Gogh
My first love in horses was the Appaloosa and that has carried over to most of my watercolor show ponies. I put MLP at the beginning of their names because they honestly remind me of My Little Ponies, which might also be how many of them got their names. :D
Watercolor on another amber champagne dun, this one with appy and roan:
MLP Periwinkle
Watercolor on silver bay appy. His dam's name is 'Little Rum', so I had to go there. :))
MLP WheresTheRumGone
Watercolor on brown leopard:
MLP Starcatcher
And then there's combining watercolor with other fantasy genes. Watercolor on Ice 2 and Axiom, though the Ice mostly hides the Axiom:
MLP Crystal Lake
And watercolor on just Axiom is always a favorite of mine because the Axiom looks like a snowflake app to me. This one is so colorful because her bay base coat was shaded in a way that shows through with watercolors.
MLP Medley
They're so much fun, I love them! :x I'll shut up now, though. :DJusta ~ ID# 44842

I wasn't that excited by the watercolours at first either, weird coloured horses who would want that LOL!! But the foals from my bays, had such interesting colours and contrasts I was hooked! Now it's one of my favourite genes!!Thanked by 1JustaSaddletramp

Some of my favourite combinations are the bays with S+ but any of the bays/browns can get some wild contrasts. Any base colours with contrasting areas can come up nice, like duns can look pretty cool too. Less contrasts on a plain chestnut or black base

I think I finally saw a KP horse I love... Fauvism looks like a cloudy night sky over a snowfield! :OJusta ~ ID# 44842
