Appaloosa odd colored spots?
  • Just curious if anybody has ever come across any research or articles on what causes odd-colored spots on Appaloosas. In the real world, I have a red varnish roan with a blanket. She has one cream colored spot on her coat. She does have possible bronzing in her lineage.

I also had a dark bay with a cream colored spot in his blanket.

Both of these horse had blankets. Neither of them were from the same line. Just wondering if anybody knew anything or had an idea.

  • All appaloosas have bronzing of some sort, appaloosa is a dilution gene as well as a patterning gene. But the one cream spot sounds odd and cool. What line are they from?

  • The chestnut, or red varnish roan is out of The Secret Pardon and a James Bond granddaughter. Her mother is a color changing horse, always looks a different color. Born a bay, but was so diluted the breeding farm thought she was champagne when she showed up. Some years she’s almost black. She’s a funny one.

The bay was a The Execituve grandson and a tuff bred qh mare.
