Neeed help deciding
  • Hi , I have been on hj2 for a while now and have thought of a better way to gain a show herd . So here I go .
Firstly I am going to be no longer breeding anything over a 2nd gen ( for now )
I will be breeding the highest quality 2nd gen foals as possible and using all the altered to join my show herd .
This means I am going to be left with many high quality horses being wasted .
I would like to know your opinion on whether I should keep them and put them up for breeding every year ( I would put a link up each season) also I love seeing everyone else’s foals out of my mares.
The alternative option is that I test all of the mares and stallions ( I would if they were up for brood or stud also) and sell them for appropriate prices around 5,000 to 10,000 depending on colour/ quality
That’s a lot to read however I’d like to know your thoughts on it :) TIA

Edit : if I kept them straws would also be available
  • Best way to get a good pt horse for showing fast is to bootstrap. I'd look for a cheap, high level stud for sale and put him in with lower level mares. All would be altered, but they would make for awesome show ponies.
  • Thanks @DevilsParadise however I’d like a little something to do in between just showing but I’m no 100% just yet
  • Lol yeah, after breeding there isn't much to do except buy horses, and that's not always a good thing :))
  • If you want to try bootstrapping, just to see what you can get, I have a couple of high star studs that I use for it. I can sell you one for 3500hb if you want. When you decide what you want to do, pm me if you're interested :)
  • Thank you @DevilsParadise . I’ll pm you in a bit , I think I’ve decided to bootstrap one year and even one year for some variety ;)
  • If you don't BA the fillies, you can use them to continue bootstrapping once they mature. All colts go to showing. Once you get half of the bootstrap colts passing BA, you can start using it on your fillies.
