Yesterday I managed to take a spill and broke my wrist most impressively. Depending on when the swelling goes down, they'll either do surgery on it later this week or early next. So, I'll be less active in the buddy chats, etc. for awhile, but will still be around. If anyone has any useful tips for coping with this kind of injury, I'd be grateful for your advice. :(

Ooosh! I hope you heal up well and the swelling goes down soon D: That sounds like an absolute nightmare of an injury to have. The only thing I can recommend is to try and keep your hand elevated above your heart so gravity can do it's thing.#4519Thanked by 1pfrsue

Sending healing prayers your way. I hope they can take care of it soon.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I broke my wrist February 2017. Slipped and fell at work landing flat on my back with my hand palm down beneath me. Luckily I didn’t need surgery.
My family has a good quality sling with a nice padded adjustable strap that plays musical chairs and bounces around to whoever needs it at the time (we try to only have one hurt person at a time lmao)
I also borrowed my moms little travel neck pillow. It’s less bulky than a regular pillow and you can get your elbow deeper to elevate your hand easier. For the first few weeks it almost lived around my wrist whether or not my arm was in the sling. I found that it reduced bumps and vibrations when I moved about.
I’m usually freezing and although it was winter in Canada I turned off my heat and wore shorts and tank tops until summer when at home and shirts and light pants at work since we aren’t allowed to wear shorts and since I broke it at work they had to give me moderated work. (I pretty much did inventory counting things out one handed, no lifting) make sure clothing is easy to get on and off one handed.
Get a collection of DVDs to watch between sleeping if you don’t have Netflix or tv but probably better to pick things you’ve seen before. I watched a lot of tv but can’t remember a single episode from that time. My public library has a website you can browse the collection and place holds then they call you when it’s ready to be picked upThanked by 1pfrsue -
Ouch! I broke my wrist a while back, and found that the slings they give you at the hospital were really uncomfortable. If you have a big lightweight rectangular scarf, tying that into a sling is way more comfy. A gun sling is another option. Less stylish, but still comfy, lol.

If you have turmeric, cayenne, marjoram, ginger, nutmeg, chamomile, and/or cinnamon, whip some or all of those up into a tea. My personal favorite is cayenne, ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon, with a splash of lemon juice and some honey for sweetness. All of those help reduce inflammation and soothe. The marjoram and ginger have the added benefit of reducing any nausea you might have from the pain. Easiest way to make a tea from them is to do a couple pinches of each in a mug, add boiling water, stir and wait. You can also (if you don't like floaties) wrap the mix up in a coffee filter (or if you happen to have tea bags already, use one of those, probably chamomile, cut it open, add them, and tie it off) and let that steep. I suggest once a day.
If you don't like tea, try adding liberal amounts of cayenne, ginger, and turmeric to rice, and then toss in raisins and maybe a couple spoons of sugar to sweeten it. Add a bit of milk, heat it up, and eat it like oatmeal.
Keep it elevated, relax, ice it but no longer than thirty minutes on before you take it off for thirty minutes, and if you hanker for some fruit, go for pineapple. Ginger tastes especially good with pineapple juice, and you can blend it into a yummy smoothie. :)ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.Thanked by 1pfrsue -
Thank you all! Some really good ideas here.
