Ice/fantasy genes and public sales
-
Not actually sure if this is a “bug” or not, but here:
http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2169103
This horse has ice, but it’s not marked in orange and therefore shouldn’t be restricted, from what I understand. However, it’s not letting me put it up for sale publicly. Is there a particular reason for this still, or is it just leftover from prior “editions” of the site? I’d love some clarification, thanks! :) -
Fantasy genes, whether open or closed, cannot be listed on the public sales list. You can advertise that they are for sale and then sell them in a buddy chat. Or send them through auction, possibly? I know I’ve seen ice 5 and 8 intact in auction
Edit: I’m pretty sure you can advertise them for sale on the forum, I’ve seen them advertised before. Just adding in case I’m wrong -
All fantasy genes be sold through buddy chats or auctionsThanked by 1Lallyhop

You shouldn’t have to geld him to run back through the auctionThanked by 1Lallyhop

I got him from the auction, and he won’t (shouldn’t) need to be gelded to go back. However, I’ll probably just end up advertising in forum and selling through buddy chat.
I understand the mechanics, but the reason I posted this is that I’m curious as to whether this is a leftover mechanic that should eventually be changed, or a current mechanic that still has a specific reason. It seems odd to me that we can send it through auction but not post publicly, especially since, even though it’s fantasy, it’s not a closed gene. The same applies for the gelded closed genes - auction but not public sales. I’m curious as to if this should/will eventually be changed, especially with the new licensing system, or if there’s still a current reasoning for allowing a horse to be in the public auction but not on the public sales list.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.Thanked by 1JustaSaddletramp -
Before the rules were in place people would mass breed crappy quality horses with special genes and then post them for sale for way to much and hoodwinked many new members who didn’t realize that they are poor quality, just that they paid a fortune to gave the desirable genes.
Now that they have to go through the auction it makes sure that they are being sold for a realistic market price and only being bumped up if members bid the price up. This also keeps the sales boards from getting too cluttered with fantasy horses sitting for long periods of time because their price tags are astronomical (or at least until a few members go through and vote it down and off the sales boards)
I can’t see the selling restrictions being lifted any time soon. -
Thanks for the explanation! :)
