Breeding brindle
  • So next season I think I’m going to put one or two of my brindle mares up for public breeding. How much should the price be if I did put them up?

  • if they're Rank Specials, it depends on the other genes and the popularity of the RS. Or were they part of the brindle event? those could be extra special or pretty bland. Can you post them here? I think a range of the basic 1k-3k could work. No GMT work, I'm assuming?
  • Yeah, they are both Rank specials and no gmt work. One is a brindle breakout and the other is The blackest night.

  • Id personally put them up for 3k, and if no one uses them within a week or two id lower it to 2.5k and leave it there.
  • Ok thanks!

  • I believe that brindle is not genetic in the game, and there's only a slightly greater chance of brindle foals from brindle parents than there is for a spontaneous brindle showing up.

  • It’s a bit hard to get brindle, yeah. On the other hand, it makes it a very happy surprise when it happens since you don’t need either parent to have it!

For most horses, it’s the fact that they’re a rank special rather than that they’re a brindle that makes them worth more to breed to - specifically, the fact that rank specials usually come with some sort of “special” gene that doesn’t usually happen in a foundation horse. That doesn’t mean brindles don’t have a bit of a breeding cost increase, but that they might not have as much as an RS with, say, pearl (as Wet n Wild does)

However, while neither of yours do that, they might still appeal to someone who wants to have rank special in their lines, or someone who is seeking out brindle - as, like Sandycreek pointed out, having brindle parents does raise the percentage chance of a brindle foal slightly.

This means you can still ask more for them than you might for a normal foundation mare. I personally put my regular foundations for 1k and my RS for 2k.

If you’re looking to make a lot of money, breeding fees aren’t really the way to go - you make the most money in this game from show horses, plain and simple. Bigger names in the game are making well over 200k a night from show horses, if that gives you any idea - and they have somewhere around five or six or more show horses for every breeder they have. I’d recommend aiming for a three to one ratio for now and working up from there, because even that’s hard with all the “ooh shiny” you see around here :P
(Unless you have insane amounts of self control. Then try for ten or twenty show horses for every breeder. You’ll end up the richest in the game because no one else has that much control :)) )

Doesn’t mean you can’t pick up a bit of pocket change from selling foals or breeding fees, and doesn’t mean that doesn’t help, but show horses are your long term income here. :)

  • You do increase your chances of having a brindle baby from using a brindle parent. Although I have seen a few spontaneous ones, I myself have never had one without a parent being brindle. I have produced a lot of foals - 25 have been brindle, all 25 had at least one brindle parent. :) Love brindles!
  • Thanks so much for the advice! I was currently looking through the auction for horses with lots of points. The problem is that on some of the horses I try to bid on it says “you must have a premium upgrade to bid on horses on associated accounts” but I don’t have any other accounts. I’m really trying to increase my show herd and found a couple 1000 point horses in the Auction but some keep saying that when I try to bid on them. How do you fix that?

  • If it’s not actually one of your other accounts or an account from someone in the same household as you, then it’s likely only associated because someone happened to log in with the same IP address as you at one point or another. It happens. The only way to get around that (if they’re not truly associated - if it is yours or someone else’s in your house, it’s against game rules to get around it, but if it’s just a freak thing Ammit is okay with getting around it) would be to have someone else bid for you and buy it from them afterwards.

However, with that particular horse, she’s 17 years old, which means she has a chance of dying off tonight (rollover - the time from one month to the next, when horses age up a year), so I would recommend looking for some show horses under 14 or 15 years of age so they have at least a couple more months with you. When a 17 year old horse turns 18, and every rollover afterwards, they have a pretty good chance of dying of age.

My personal strategy is to look for high pointed horses under 12, but everyone has a different method. Just know that if you bid on a 17 year old horse, you’re making a gamble as to whether it’ll live and you’ll make your money back in income. 16 will at least give you one full month to make your money back in, but at that point you should still look at the daily bonus under their points and multiply by 30 (or days left until they turn 18, technically) to see if they’ll make you back your money during that month.

  • Ok yeah, I can’t bid one her anyways but because of the rollover thing it’s a good thing I didn’t. Thanks for the advice too, it was very helpful!

  • For auctions, what I do is I'll look for horses aged between 10-14. I'll look for leveled off ones or ones that I think are close to it, and then I'll look at their scoring. Even if a 10 year old who is leveled off only has 50 points, if they're scoring in the top of their class I'll bid on them because that placing means they'll add a lot more to their points. If a horse has a good number of points, but is leveled off last, I won't actually bid on them. Unless they have over 1k worth of points, but then that's another story lol

  • @Gracie3B, to add to what Lallyhop said, if you get that “associated accounts” error message repeatedly during auction times, no matter who the seller is, try logging completely out of your account, then logging back in. I had that issue when I started playing, and after a few times logging in and out, bidding worked for me.
You only have ten associated accounts (see Lallyhop’s explanation), so you should be able to bid on most horses in auction.

  • Those are two lovely mares, whether they pass on their brindle or not. Thanks for offering an opportunity to breed to them.

  • @Alohomora I will try logging back out and in, thank you for the help!
    And
@SandycreekFarm Thank you! I’m trying to focus more on building my show herd and I have some other rank specials that I might put up too :)
