I just gotta say this...
  • For a game that includes a certain amount of competition, again and again during the last couple months you guys have shown to be the kindest, most helpful, little pocket community I've ever stumbled across. Just browsing the forums shows little examples of it every day. I've never seen a cry for help that wasn't answered with a minimum of a kind word. Where have you guys been hiding all my online life?

  • I have long noticed this. I think a large reason is because our primary competitor is the variability built into almost every aspect of the game, not each other. Inter-player competition is kept to a minimum that way, and for each of us, "winning" means reaching the goals we each have set for ourselves. Since we all have personal goals, we're freed to be helpful to each other without diminishing our ability to achieve those personal goals.

In addition, Ammit keeps track of things and assures that we remain cordial and helpful to each other.

  • another big part of it is that the game isn't marketed to young kids or preteens, and the vast majority of players are older. :P I think the requirement of full sentences and punctuation really helps iron out the communication that would otherwise make for some petty arguments. :)
  • Thank you Ammit for requiring full sentences!! <3<br />
Honestly, the community is great. I think as SandyCreek mentioned, the fact that there isn’t a “win or lose” feel to the game helps keep people friendly and helpful to each other. The fact that the senior members are willing to help the newer people so much really makes a big difference in keeping people playing.
  • Same! I've dabbled in various online horse-themed games over the years and they either 1. have no sense of community or 2. tend to be marketed towards younger players and therefore competitive or somewhat unwelcoming. But I love HAJ because you can participate in the community as much or as little as you want - it's perfectly fine to keep to yourself, but you can also make friends and share experiences. And like Sandycreek said, everyone has their own goals. We're really competing against ourselves, not each other.
  • I come from a long line of community based games that have both of those faults @kalidascope. I've been looking for a good breeding game for years... Horrifies me to think where I could have landed instead on the midnight Google search that got me here. In only a few months I've gotten hooked. Now I just need more barn space. *always*

  • I have to agree with all of this. I've made some friends here and found a game I've quickly become addicted to. I love how helpful most folks are, but I love when I get a chance to help too. I really like the way the lack of actual competition (other than bidding on auctions! :D ) takes away the motivation to be anything but friendly, no matter whether you've played for a week or for years. Everyone has something to offer! :)

  • There’s a no drama rule lol Ammit and the moderators do a really good job of cracking down on drama queens so we mostly only see it if we are on right when it’s posted.

I’ve played a lot of games but I really just stopped looking once I’ve found hunt and jump (way back in 2006!) The communities I’d experienced before made me dislike humans even more than I already naturally do lol all the cliquey nasty teen behaviour turned me off when I was a teen and it has not gotten any easier as I’ve gotten older.

I love that the community is welcoming and giving but isn’t afraid to step up and say You have gotten enough hand outs, you need to figure things out because you can’t just get everything quick and free. The rest of us have spent a lot of hours and dollars to get where we are and while it’s nice to share there’s no rule saying we have to.

The no chat speak rule also ensures that members from around the world are able to understand and participate even if English is not their first language. It also spans generations that grew up with different slang.

I enjoy games that I get to choose how and what I do on my own schedule rather than just following along some predestined track
  • I don't feel like we are competing with anyone at all. Like SandyCreek stated winning is reaching our goals. That plus the fact we can play the way we want. I would think feeling like you are in competition would make the game stressful not fun.
I love the way the community takes care of one another. I would have never made it when I started if they didn't.
  • Awww you guys just made my morning. We've been having a bit of a rough time behind the scenes at the moment. Mostly personal stuff plus growing pains of bringing new people into the team. Thank you so much everyone for posting.

PS: If you have not would anyone be willing to leave a review? https://www.facebook.com/pg/huntandjump/reviews/?ref=page_internal

  • We Love the game Ammit. Thanks for everything you do!
  • I agree that part of what makes this community so amazing is the way the game is designed. We all get to set our own goals and work towards them independently. In this game it is possible for everyone to reach the same goal. If my goal is to get a PT of 13, it is possible. I am not depending on someone else to lose to get there, we can all get there. That cuts way back on the drama.
  • I really appreciate this community too. I've been turned off to the real-life horse world community lately because there are real-life drama queens too, but I can't tell you how grateful I am that I have found a community that is both considerate of other people and passionate about horses. You guys make my day every day.

  • I love the fact that even the leader boards are kind of random chance. Instead of spending all night entering shows or hoarding money to be the best I can just pursue my breeding goals and maybe breed the best. And the only way to breed the best is to cooperate with each other.

I started playing horse sims before there was even automated ones. Back in the days of expages and HL. I remember HL was pretty low on community unless you bred Arabians, they were pretty awesome. I haven't found that kind of feeling until I stumbled upon this game.

Also just the fact that I don't have to be on this game all day every day to makes it way less stressful.
  • Oh Expages. I remember you with a mix of fondness and shame.
