A Chance to Fly Your Geek Flag

Hiya!
We don't get to talk much about our fandoms lives in the course of the game, except for small references in names and notes. Here's a chance to let everyone know which fandoms have a banner flying from your turrets!
If you get into an argument , we might ask you to take it to the PMs. We might also join in.
I'm a Potterhead, Whovian, LotR fan, Trekkie, Star Wars fan (only recently :P), Sherlockian, Merlinian, Firefly fan, Brownie/Pegasister, Marvel fan, and a Disney fan, to varying degrees.
I've also seen a bunch of standalone movies, but that's probably a list too long for here. :P
In books, I've read and enjoyed works by Marguerite Henry, Walter Farley, Jasper Fforde, John Flanagan, Pamela Aidan, Shannon Hale, Eoin Colfer, S. Morgenstern, Brian Jacques, P. G. Wodehouse, Madeleine L'Engle, Rick Riordan, Jane Austin, Laurie R. King, C. S. Lewis, Terry Pratchett, and I'm sure many others who I'm forgetting.
I've also read the Sweetness At the Bottom of the Pie, National Velvet, many many books of the Saddle Club in my younger days, Tintin, some John Green novels, the Little House on the Prairie series, the How to Train Your Dragon series (except the last book or two), a like a bazillion others. :D
What are or have been your favorite stories? :) -
Oh boy, here we go. LotR and the Hobbit. I have an awesome collection of swords in my computer room from the movies. My favorite has to be Sting. My Chihuahua's name is Thorin. J.R.R. Tolkiens LotR sits on a pedestal below our photo Canvas of Artemis on his ice throne (WoW). I have also named my entire Cotton Patch Flock after LotR. A Potterhead doesn't even describe my obsession. Wands, scarfs (I live in Florida rofl) and my everyday bag with Hedwig. I'm lucky my kids share my obsession. We even have a chicken named Patronus and two African Geese named Lilly and Severus. Can't leave out Star Wars and The Matrix. NCIS, the original, has always been another addiction of mine. Getting into new series I find hard simply because my husband wont watch them with me but some of the ones I love are Once Upon A Time and Dexter. Books, I can't even begin. The ones I really love and read over and over I have hard copies of. The rest are on my kindle simply because I don't have a book case large enough to hold them all. Some of my favorite include Christopher Moore, Frank E. Peretti, Paulo Coelho and the two listed above just to name a few.
-
That's so cool! My Art teacher actually has most of the swords and one or two of Gandalf's staffs. :D I also tried to name my herd here after characters and horses in the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan, but I don't think there are 300 names in the entire 13 books. :P Or even including the spinoff series called Brotherband. :D
I forgot to add Once Upon a Time, of course, and also Castle, and to be specific in Marvel tv, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter (which is premiering the second season tonight, so the first season of 8 episodes is expiring on hulu, so I may have binge-watched it in the past two days), and Supergirl. :D Oh, and Daredevil, but only when my big brother comes back and lets us use his Netflix account. :P -
I DVR a lot of tv series if I want to watch them. Then I can watch them when I want to. Some of my kids are small and I really didn't want them watching Dexter with me, so the DVR came in handy lol. The only thing I'm sad about is that I have yet to see Sting glow but I guess I should take that as a good sign because then obviously there are no goblins or Orcs around hehehehe. I forgot all about Hunger Games. I actually read the whole series as well as the whole Shades of Gray series in three days. I'm not a book worm, I'm a book monster lol
-
I can see why you wouldn't want your kids to see Dexter. I haven't seen any, but I've heard of it. :P
I f you saw Sting glow, I'd be worried. :P
I've read the Hunger Games series too, but I haven't seen all of the movies. My family isn't that interested. :P
Oh, and the Eragon series. Maybe you read the first one and didn't like it, but they get better and more original as they go on. :) -
I did read all of those too. I was sad a second movie never came out :(
-
I wasn't. That movie was terrible. :P I hope they do a remake sometime, though. :D
-
I thought the same thing when the first Hunger Games Movie came out but they got better. Remaking it would be awesome, especially with the new technology we have now. It could be an epic movie for sure.
-
Yeah, I hope so. Christopher Paolini said at some point that he liked it how it was, so I'm not sure it'll ever happen. Did you know that he's about to publish a separate book that's sci-fi? :D
-
I love all of the above and more. I think I read more than watch t.v. and movies. Anyone like Anne MacCaffreys Pern? Or Piers Anthonys Xanth? I joke with my husband about how we are raising our children right - the boy child loves Star Trek and Star Wars, and the girl child informed me the other day that she was naming her kids after characters from The Hobbit. I am also eagerly awaiting for The X-files to return this Sunday.
-
Oh, that could be interesting. Certainly raised my curiosity. Hopefully it's not to far out there. Some things I have a hard time adjusting to. Like when Twilight came out. I was disappointed. I grew up with Van Helsing and Underworld. I went in thinking "Awesome another vampire movie" I left thinking "That's not a vampire and that certainly is not a werewolf". Once I got over that fact I was finally able to enjoy the movie for what it was but it took me I think a year after the last movie came out for me to actually enjoy them lol
-
My two middle children were playing with there fake swords the other day, one a boy the other a girl. I could here they were reenacting a scene from LotR. I peeked around the door. My son laughed and told my daughter "No man can kill me!" my daughter pull off her helmet and said "I'm no man!" ROFL

My 6yr old loves Assassins Creed. He just finished IV on the X-box. My husband and I were very surprised he could play it at all let alone finish it. He's already begging for more. I'm so glad my kids love the obsessions we have and get into them as much as we do.

I'm first and foremost a book nerd. I have to have read the book before I'll see the movie. I can stand a movie screwing up the plot of a book (sometimes) but I can't stand book spoilers.
These are a few of my favorite things.
I have to say my biggest fandom obsession is probably Star Wars. I'm old enough to have seen the original movies in theaters, and so it began. I'm not a huge memorabilia collector (a few figures) but my shelves are lined with Star Wars books, from novels to the Star Wars Essential Atlas. And... RPG books. My husband runs a weekly Star Wars roleplaying game (similar to D&D, but Star Wars). Do I win the geek award yet? We also have a gigantic tote full of Star Wars miniatures, along with the newer X-Wing game and I don't know how many others. Of course we own all movies and also all seasons of the Clone Wars and Rebels animated series.
Second is probably Lord of the Rings. Can't say how many times I've read the LotR trilogy, or how many times I've watched the movies, which I was mildly disappointed in after the first one (oh Faramir, what have they done to you?). We have also tinkered with an LotR RPG, LotR minis game, LotR Risk, and LotR card game... we game a lot, can you tell? In addition, I've read the Hobbit, of course, but also a lot of the backstory stuff Tolkien wrote, like the Silmarillion, Lost Tales, etc. Hanging above my desk is a tapestry map of Middle Earth, and I am so geeky that for a roleplaying game I learned some Quenya (the language of Tolkien's elves). NOW do I win the geek award? ;)
The others are a toss-up in order of favoriteness.
Firefly's up there, though. It's shiny.
I'm a more recent convert to Whovianism, but no less obsessed. Torchwood was pretty awesome too.
I recently discovered Farscape, and love it.
I really like Star Trek, especially Next Generation era and Enterprise (Scott Bakula).
Battlestar Galactica. I adored the series when I was a kid (hoo boy, is it cheesy to watch now), and I liked the new series.
Harry Potter. I devoured those books and was thrilled that the movies stayed pretty true. What's not to love?
Game of Thrones. I read all the books long before the TV series came out and LOVED them, but I kind of petered out on the show and haven't watched past midway season 2... I dunno why. I think maybe because the books started to suck around #5 and that slacker George R.R. Martin is never going to finish them.
D&D, especially Forgotten Realms. Interspersed with our Star Wars RPG we've played a whole lot of it and other fantasy game systems. Get outta here with your 4th and 5th ed, I'm a 3.5 girl forever. I've also read gobs and gobs of the novels.
Marvel. Okay, I'm not a huge comic book nerd... I don't really get the format, for some reason? My brain does not process. But I live with two of them, and I enjoy hearing about the stories and I love the movies, for the most part (some of the X-Men ones were meh but I went total fangirl over Avengers and all related movies), and also Agents of SHIELD. I need to get busy watching the newer Marvel TV shows.
Heroes. The fact that they canceled it is almost as big a crime as the loss of Firefly.
I'm not a huge video game nerd either, because I sort of suck at them, although when I find one I can manage (Baldur's Gate, Champions of Norath, a couple of the Final Fantasies) I get addicted big time. I lost years of my life to Guild Wars. Never could get into WOW, mainly because I didn't care for the graphics -- I have an artist's eye and if I don't like the art in a game (or an animated show) forget it.
Sci fi/fantasy books I love, not named above: Robin Hobb's Farseer/Liveship series, Wheel of Time, Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, Foundation/Robot series, Dune, Outlander (not really obsessed with the TV show... I think sometimes when I love a book SO MUCH I can't get into the visual media because it doesn't quite match.. not that it's bad). I'm sure there's a ton more I'm not thinking of.
And finally, we love the Renfaire scene and the con scene. When my son was in middle school he joined the Renaissance Club, which was AWESOME, and I joined in and helped, forming a Renaissance dance troupe and teaching them how to do the dances, costuming, and also, we put on a human chess match every year. We had a Renaissance wedding that is still talked about 10 years later and people asking us when we are going to do another one.
I make chainmaille and wire jewelry and costume stuff so I have been to several area cons selling it, mostly small ones, though we're hoping to go to Dragon Con this year.
Many nerd flags are snapping in the wind from the battlements of Nerd Castle over here. :)
Nerd things I am NOT a fan of: My Little Pony (I really just don't get it?? It bothers me that they don't even look like horses), and anime. My husband is obsessed but I cannot stand it. -
You got plenty of time. Enjoy high school, enjoy college, and after that enjoy some traveling before you decided it's time to have kids :)
-
Im a huge fan of World of tanks and a WW2 junkieLife is Special live it to your fullest
-
OMG, Abbey you must be my long lost sister. Where have you been? My husband and I love making molds for our D&D expeditions. Crafting some of the area kind of helps it all come to life. I got him a "Bag of Holding" for his work laptop so he can show off his geek in style at work lol They have a huge Renaissance fair in Tampa FL every year that we go to. It's so much fun.
I'm going to really show my age with this one but my age is no longer a secret so, Has anybody read the Gore Series of books by John Norman? I love that series. I still have not finished them. I keep finding myself going back and rereading them instead of moving on to the next one lol -
And im a huge walking dead fanfictionLife is Special live it to your fullest

Serious Potterhead here. I'm going to end up breaking down and buying the new book even tho our bookcases are full... I also quite enjoy JKs Cormoran Strike series. Can't wait for Fantastic Beasts movie to come out!
Love my LotR. I was quite enamored with the recent Peter Jackson movies (despite character tinkering...tho I miss Tom Bombadill) and can pretty much recite the dialogue for them. I have not gotten into the source material beyond the direct books tho...I find Tolkien a lot of work to read!
Other books I've read-- Raymond E Feists Midkemia is amazing and probably my favorite fantasy series ever, Anne McCaffrey's Pern is a dragon paradise, tho I thought it went downhill when Todd started writing. Not a huge GOT books fan, as it's too angsty and I agree with Abbey that he's never gonna finish. Enjoy the tv tho. Loved the Eragon series. Read like 8 of the Wheel of Time books but my interest petered out..he tried to do too much with too many characters in my opinion. Love David Eddings and if you haven't read his stuff you are missing out. Got into Laurel Hamilton's necromancer series--quite smutty but oh what a guilty pleasure. Read Twilight series in 4 days right before exams one year--addictively awful, didn't much care for the movies. I loved Susan Cooper, Madeline L'Engle, Lloyd Alexander and Narnia growing up.
I quite enjoy the various Avengers movies. I love Star Wars. liked the new Star Trek movies but I'm not a big Trekkie. Loved Firefly and Serenity, generally enjoy Joss Whedon. Pretty much up for most sci fi/fantasy movies as long as they aren't too scary.
We don't watch a ton of tv, so I'm not as into that. We are quite enjoying the Walking Dead and hoping to catch up on the spin off prequel when it comes out on the boxset channel here. Love GoT, looking forward to the new X Files, as my husband had all the old ones on VHS...I'm looking to replace them for him. I have tried and failed to become a Whovian...don't hurt me!
I'm not really a gamer--I'm no good at it! I guess 10 years or so ago I was really into Diablo 2, but playing down here has been hard because internet is so expensive. Now we have unlimited high speed broadband for the first time in 9 years and Im busy working and taking care of the puppy and playing this game! -
FJ, I'd love to hear more about/see some of your terrain. I haven't gotten into that much (we use a draw-on battle mat), but I paint miniatures for nearly every game we start, and then some. I spent a fortune on Dark Sword minis inspired by artist Stephanie Pui-Mun Law (she is my favorite contemporary artist, look her up if you're not familiar with her work and you like fantasy), but haven't started painting them yet.
I haven't heard of the John Norman books, I'll have to check those out.
Cheers, I have a long list of friends who tried and failed to become Whovians... it's not for everyone. It's cheesy but I enjoy it.
I enjoyed your book list, it reminded me that I've been meaning to re-read A Wrinkle in Time and the rest of the series.
And I agree about Wheel of Time... there are very few authors who can pull off a series of greater than 4 books with style, they all seem to get either repetitive or lame after that. Outlander suffers from it, GoT, Wheel of Time, Sword of Truth, Jean M. Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear books, even Dune. That's why I love those Robin Hobb books so much... she (I think?) writes the books as sets of trilogies so maybe that does something to alleviate it, but the series is so beautifully written and breathtaking and it never loses steam. Foundation series keeps on keeping on, too. There's a series by Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman (who wrote the Dragonlance books, which I couldn't get into) called the Death Gate Cycle. 9 books, I think, and they are really good. Oh! If you like Historical Fiction, Bernard Cornwell is amazing, especially the Saxon Chronicles.
Eddings is on my to-read list, but it is seven miles long.
Psh! Full bookcases. That should never stop anyone. Buy more bookcases! -
I may be almost 17 but i love Play-DohLife is Special live it to your fullest

Abbey, It's a very, very old series. My dad remembers when they came out. He would go get the new book when his navy ship was docked. It's really hard to even put the series into a category. I guess I would call it sci fi. The story takes place on earth's sister plant on the other side of the sun, which is why people on earth don't know it exists. The "gods" of that planet don't allow the races to progress in technology so life is pretty primitive. They have something like the old medieval class system in place, which is kind of cool.Thanked by 1Abbey Road

Rose, Anne MacCaffrey's Pern books are about a planet that was settled and came under attack by "thread". Settlers engineered dragons from indigenous winged lizards. Certain people could "impress" dragons and thus become their riders. There are several books in the series, ranging thousands of years. If you like fantasy/dragons, you will probably like them. Her son, Todd, continued the series, but I do not really care for his works. Anne also wrote a couple of horse based fiction books. Piers Anthony's Xanth is an alternate realm to Mundania (Earth), with several different types of magical characters. You have to have a sense of humor to read these books, because they are filled with puns.
The X-files was a T.V. show in the 90s that focused on two FBI agents, Mulder and Scully, who investigated paranormal events. It had a heavy focus on conspiracy theories, and the like. "The truth is out there" was a catchphrase for it. It was on air for around nine seasons I think, and had two movies spin off of it. It is coming back as a mini-series starting Sunday. -
Well, lets see. I am old enough that I saw the original Star Wars when it came out, I'm 53. I believe I might have been in 10th grade at the time, so while I love Star Wars, I am not a total geek about it. I've seen all of them I think, except this latest one, and I probably will not see it til it comes out in DVD, but I will definitely own it then.
Firefly! Love it! Can't quote it though, I'm horrible at remembering quotes and stuff. My friends I hang out with are great mimics though (especially the guys), they can just quote things from all different movies like nothing.
Lord of the Rings. I have the movies, and saw them when they came out. I have tried to read the books, several times, but I really hate it that every single person in his books has to have a song to sing, and he wrote them into each book, which to me distracts me from the story, so I can't say I really like his writting that much, just too erratic for me to follow.
Now David Eddings! Love his stuff! There is hardly nothing of his I haven't read.
Mercedes Lackey too! She is awesome!
Now another author I follow is Lynn Flewelling, her Luck in the Shadows series is awesome.
Her book "The Bone Doll's Twin"(a Luck in the Shadows follow up), was a book that was soo good, after reading it, I turned it over and started reading it again. I rarely ever do that.
I am also a gamer, mostly of the "old sit at a table with your friends and roll the dice" rather than online (HJ1 and HJ2 being the exception). One of the best games we play is called 7th Sea (we also run it at conventions as a living campagne - Hero's Of Altamira http://www.guildofsanmarcos.net/. We run it at Total Confusion in Massachusetts, Origins Game Fair in Columbus Ohio, and at Gen Con. (Check out the forum at the site for info on when they are run).
I am also a big fan of Breyer Horses. I have over 200 individual horses, plus lots of other odds and ends type of horses like Johnny West.
I could care less about Harry Potter and Dr. Who. Neither of them caught my attention, and it really surprised my friends, especially about Harry Potter, but when it came out I had just discovered David Eddings, and he is more awesome to me in his way of writing.
I also sew and make jewelry. Mostly Ren Fair costumes in the sewing, or stuffed animals, but with the jewelry I just make what I like. Did a little Steampunk jewelry for a while, but have been busy lately with unpacking (moved just before Thanksgiving), so I haven't done much with it, but I now have an extra room in my new place that I am making into my art studio, where I can sew, make jewelry and paint/draw to my hearts content!
I'm also a big Planet of the Apes fan, as I grew up watching it on TV back in the early 70's, along with the original Star Trek. I like the new remakes too, as it puts a different view from the old PotA I had as a kid.
I've followed along with all the Star Trek's, loved what I could of FarScape, though for the last 15 or so years, I really haven't had any tv hookup (not paying for cable tv, when tv used to be free!), so most of my viewing I watch is DVD's, though at work I do watch the History Channel a lot on my breaks, and would love to get the DVD's of the Viking show it had, from the little bit I got to see here and there.
Probably lots I've not mentioned, and lots I have forgotten, lol, but yeah, I may not be the top geek of the lot, but I'm definitely in the crowd.
-
That sounds great! I wish we still went to the library as often as we used to. :T
I think I've heard of it before now, but I didn't remember what it was. I think I lump it in with the Twilight Zone. :P
I never read through LotR either. :P There was something about the middle of the Two Towers that didn't keep me reading.
I've got somewhere between 20 and 30 Breyers from when I would still play with them. They're so cool! I wish I still had a use for them, because I'd keep buying them. They're getting better and better all the time. :D -
Oh my god I forgot Monty Python. That's awful.
And The Princess Bride. And Blackadder...
... and Terry Pratchett, and Neil Gaiman. All kinds of good nerdy humor I left out. -
Breyers! I collected tons of them and I still have some, though they're packed away in the garage right now due to lack of space. I really, really want to get into customizing them, but just haven't done it (see lack of space problem). Also making tack for them. I used to do "photo shows" with them where you send photos (this was pre-internet!) and the show holder judges them. One day I'd love to make it to Breyer Fest at KHP.
I got a sewing machine for Christmas, and I am planning on making costumes for my Arabian (the real one, not the Breyers), though we don't show so it's really just for fun, though it'd be nifty to take her to be in the local parade. Am I still on geekery? -
:P Of course, Monty Python. Blackadder? I don't watch it, but my sister does. Jeeves and Wooster of Fry and Laurie?
-
Don't forget the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog. I love that little guy
-
I'd LOVE to go to Breyerfest! It's a little far, maybe, and expensive.
What am I going to say, Abbey, Go Somewhere Else, We Don't Talk to Your Kind Here? It fits under "Eccentric". :P I only have one sister, and she sews a lot of her own clothes. :D Not Arab show tresses, but y'know, sorta. Hmm. -
I don't sew (well, except sewing up dog toys and at work) but I knit. Currently working on blankets for my niece and my best friend's son. My craftiness is mostly expressed in baking and cooking--and thus introducing these Aussies to good American food!
-
I can crochet, but I don't very often. Is Australian cuisine that terrible, Cheers? :)
-
I sew, mainly quilts, for new babies. My husband has been bugging me for years to make him a Halloween costume but I'm not looking forward to it. I rarly sew clothes. They are such a pain in the butt. He wants an authentic Gandalf the White costume. Just looking at the detailed stitching on the vest gives me a headache Ugh
-
Actually it's generally amazing--very Asian inspired, and because of the climate here the produce is out of this world better than what you can get at a regular grocery store in the US. But they have a lot to learn about baking...cakes here are usually dry and tasteless or so heavy with cooking oil that they are like bricks and still tasteless. Just making a basic chocolate layer cake down here makes you look like a baking queen. Make your own pie crust or actually put some work into making a cool cake? True goddess territory. In my phone calendar with everyone's birthday, I make a note of their favorite dessert too and look for recipes all year long, so I know to pull out the Chocolate with Orange for Jeremy or anything with peanut butter for Jase or lemon meringue pie for Susie....Thanked by 1RoseFlute

Where to start......
I am older than dirt, so geek wasn't a term even used back when I was younger....lol. I am old school. Waaaaaay before the color black was popular, it was my favorite color. It got me in trouble when I started kindergarten, I was mostly sitting in the corner facing the wall at coloring time. Yeah, I colored everything black. All of my pets were black, dog, cat, first two horses, almost all my cars and trucks I owned....ect. I think that would have been considered geekish/nerdish if it was a term then. It was just called weird at that time.
Which brings me to my second thing I suppose that would have been considered more nerd than geek I guess, back when I became a teen. Also, some of these things most of you may not be familiar with. Let me start with those.
I love muscle cars, including 1968 Dodge Chargers, 1970 Dodge Challengers, 1968 Mustangs, just to name a few. I love pickup trucks. I bought my 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup new, yep it was black too. I had it for 21 years, it finally gave up last year. So I traded it in, now I have a silver SUV....lol. I must be getting old.... But I still have a remote control truck the same as my Dodge. I have model cars of the muscle cars, and remote control cars too. Yep, all black.....
That brings me to movies that I absolutely love. And some of you probably haven't even heard of the first two.
1. Vanishing Point and Bullit, muscle car movies that I saw at a drive in movie. I have a few posters and such from them still.
2. Gone With The Wind, my first theater movie, and then The Wizzard Of Oz. I have a bunch of collectables from both of those movies. Posters, coffee cups, dishes, and some other things. The books from them also. I still have the VHS tapes, in case I can't get new DVD's when the ones I have wear out from watching them so much.
3. Then I have a big lag of geek/nerdiness until Pirates Of The Caribbean. Yeah, I went crazy nerd on all of them. I saw POTC - The Curse Of The Black Pearl 14 times in the theater before it came out on DVD. I was head over heels crazy for Norrington. I started joining all the forums for POTC. I am still in contact with three of the friends I made on those forums through Facebook. I saw POTC - Dead Man's Chest, 20 times in the theater. That was my favorite. Norrington was awesome in POTC _ DMC! I didn't like POTC 3 - At World's End as much, except for the song they used from the movie 'Once Upon A Time In The West.' That is another Olddddd movie. I love that song, "Harmonica Man.' I only saw AWE 3 times at the theater. I started collecting all the action figures, and I have the Pirate's Dice game, as well as a TV interaction game of POTC. I loved the mini figures that you put in hot water to see which mini figure you got. I started buying the Capt. Jack books, which are more kids books, but I read them anyway. I have the Capt. Jack bandana, his hat, and Barbossa's hat. I have replicas of the jewelry worn by Capt. Jack, and Capt. Barbossa, plus a small replica of Norrington's sword. I have an autographed photo of Capt. Jack that I came down to Los Angeles from Oregon to get signed personally.
And that is when going to all the Medieval Faires within a 1 day driving distance of my home town in Oregon started. We had a Captain Jack impersonator in my home town. I went to the Faire with a friend, and I was even more hooked on POTC. I went to all the Faires he went to so I could watch the pirate skits. Plus, if the Faires were near water, the masted ship used for The Interceptor in POTC 1 -COTBP was there. I have been on it a few times also. I am looking at two prints right now. I bought at one of the Faires. One of Captain Jack, and one of Commodore Norrington.
I had to move back to California to help family and only saw POTC 4 twice before it came out on DVD. And I am waiting for POTC 5 to come out in 2017.
TV - NCIS and only NCIS as it actually comes out, since JAG went off the air. I have the DVD's for both series. I do watch reruns for all the CSI series, and Criminal Minds.
EDIT: Oh yeah, my cat's name is Captain Jack Sparrow. I even have a stallion in here named the same. -
Perhaps we need another thread for craftiness, I could write another book. :)
-
Oh my, when you start to think of it maybe I'm a little like Abbey with my nerdom all over the place.
Books: I love to read. Fantasy series are probably my favorite. I have boxes of books in our spare room and one day I will have a library room to stuff them into *fingers crossed.* Some favorites are the several Dragonlance Trilogies written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and Wheel of Time. I have a few other trilogies along those lines that are probably not as well known. Has anyone read the Chronicles of Prydain? That's a well loved series from my childhood. It was fun to re-read them all last year after it had been 10 years or so.
Whoever mentioned John Flanagan, I loved The Ranger's Apprentice books! I bought them for my brother as birthday/Christmas gifts and read them with him. Great stuff.
Anyone who loves horses and fantasy and loves to read should try The Green Rider and the subsequent sequels by Kristen Britain. I am obsessed. I read the first two books clear back in Jr. High and the sixth book should be due out sometime in the next year. My only fear is that she dies in some tragic accident before the end!
I almost forgot! Anything by Cassandra Clare I have really enjoyed so far. I own all of the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices books. I haven't quite gotten around to reading her newest series yet I that realm but it's on my list. ABC Family (or Freeform as its called now just started a tv series based on the first book. I am pretty on the fence about it, has anyone else read the books and seen the first two episodes of the series?
Movies/TV: For movies basically any great Western or Horse Movie I am a fan of. Also the new Sherlock Holmes movies with Rober Downey Jr. are superb.
I have binge watched a lot of TV especially lately, but the only ones I own or plan to own in the future in DVD are Supernatural and Heartland. Those are wildly different I know, but I have varied tastes. Oddly enough Supernatural I watched the first five seasons on tv and then lost interest through college since the show kind of wrapped up its major storylines in season 5. Suddenly though it seemed like Supernatural became mega popular and everybody was talking about it so I went back from the beginning and I am almost finished with Season 10. I can't believe I ever stopped!
Video Games: I hardly ever play now but when I was a teenager I played a lot with my brother. Probably our biggest loyalties lay with The Jak games on PlayStation 2 (Jak and Daxter and sequels). Also I played the first two Assassins Creeds on XBox with my brother before I moved out. Sometimes I am a little sad I have missed out on all the cool sequels. Finally my secret obsession is Gallop Racer 2 for the PlayStation 2. I took the PlayStation when my brother was going to toss it out just so that I can keep playing. My husband thinks I am strange.
Holy cow I wrote a novel! Obsessed much? The bad thing is that I know I left some out. It sounds like you all understand though!SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

I love the Green Rider series!! But if you like that, you must have also read the Valdamar series by Mercedes Lackey? Whole lot of books there if your looking for some great stuff.
Supernatural is awesome too. I have up to season 5 in DVD's, but have watched a little beyond that. One of my friends saids it goes downhill after that, but then he is a bit of a snob when it comes to how stories are told, so I will have to see for myself if I like it beyond season 5.
Right now we are actually playing Supernatural RPG, and it's a nice game system if you like RPG's. Our supernatural ghost and stuff are based in Boston, since that's were we live near, and we've alreadly did a ghost story on the Boston Molassas Flood (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Molasses_Flood).

Howl's Moving Castle? I love that movie! It's got a great score. :D
I used to play Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion a lot, but then we lost the disc or something and I can't anymore. :P -
I love Elder Scrolls!!
And Howls Moving Castle is the best! -
@KerredansCorral
Chronicles of Valdemar is great as well. I haven't read them all as my local library had a random selection at the time. I would like to get a list in chronological order and read them/reread them all again.
I've enjoyed the last five seasons of Supernatural. Probably not as much as the first five, but worth watching in your spare time.
Elder Scrolls Oblivion was another game I played back as a teenager. I never got very far in the main storyline though. Too many side things to do. I enjoyed it though.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES
