Pasture Strategies
-
I have only been playing about a month, but it has become clear that I need more pastures!
If you want to breed even, you need a pasture for your yellow/C horses, and one for your red/B horses. Lord help you if you want to separate colors too.
How do others manage this? I was thinking of using the pastures mostly for large scale breeding of foundation horses, then using hand breeding for the second generations on up. But I don't want to miss out on that sweet pasture bonus.
What strategies do others use? -
I bought the pack for sale from Ammit - the small 10 stall one - then you can move the mares from your big to the small in batches.
Or you could give those red ones 13 days (put them in on Sunday just after shows) and then the yellow ones 13 days (that way you don't miss showing any of them). That's how I started out. -
Also I always feel the higher the generation the more they need the pasture bonus :)Thanked by 1TallTree

Ah! So you can use a pasture twice in a month - with different horses?
-
You can have different mares breeding in it every day if you really want.

But I am with Dinascar on this, I prefer my higher gen mares to have a bigger bonus. So if it comes down to choosing my foundations or my second gens, my second gens get the majority of the pasture time.Thanked by 1TallTree

Hmm. So, it would make sense to have one big pasture, where all the mares hung out all the time, and one little pasture where the breeding happens. Then you could move the mares you want to breed into the little pasture, with the stallion you want to use, and breed them. Then move the foals out, move the mares back to the big pasture, and repeat.Thanked by 1ChilliFireFarm

On hj2 I just have 1 - 100 acre pasture. I have 3 groups of foundation mares with 2 studs each that I put in for 5-7 days bonus (I’m working on increasing my second Gen mares) I shuffle the mare groups monthly so they may go to a different set of studs each breeding year. Then I breed all my lined horses by generation after the foundations are done usually just before the season closes. (Mostly just because that’s how my work schedule has turned out the last few months I’m off and can get on wifi.)
On HJ1 I’ve collected a few different sizes here and there over the years and took advantage of the recent sale and picked up a bunch of 100’s. So almost all of my mares now fit into pastures so it’s a bit more organized and they stay in longer. I just went through the other week and relabeled all the pastures so I know what generation is in there. I usually clear them all out and reorganize every month so it’s getting quicker to refill the pastures. Especially since I have my barns sorted by generations so I just go through my breeding stock barns sort by name and put them in a similarly named pasture.
All my mares are sorted by generations and then a prefix to indicate special genes I’m working on (ice and Satin on one server, nexus and KP on the other one). Smaller fields get the nexus or KP and larger fields are filled with the rest of each generation and left over mares get put in the nexus or kp pastures to increase their numbersThanked by 1WhiteMountain -
You are so organised Bandit1119 :)

Lol I’ve also have been around a while and have tried different methods of sorting and tagging my horses until I figured out one that works for me.
Also since I’ve been around that long I’ve collected a large herd of show horses that conveniently pay for extra barns.
Here I have sort of a mush mash of barns but I’ve played HJ1 since 2006 so each generation has a 210 stall barn and 5- 1000 stall barns for show horses. I just haven’t quite figured out if I want to start culling my mares when they reach the barn limits or buy another barn lol
