I kinda feel like I don't have great quality horses so could I please get some opinions on who is good and should be kept & who is wasting my barn space.

What colors or patterns do you want to breed for?
Do you care of a horse is even or uneven?
I would keep all those with high points as they are good for your daily show bonus :)●▬▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

May I ask a question? I keep reading people talk about 'even' and 'uneven' horses. What does that mean?
-
For some it is even breeding quality.
Yellow/C ,Red/B Blue/A Gold/Star
But for most it is generations.
Foundations are Gen1
Their foals are Gen2 and so on :)
This guy is evenly breed by generations
5g S PaintedGalaxy
This guy is unevenly bred.
U11g S8 Splash the moon
If you click onto their page and click family it will show a link called Veiw full pedigree.
When you look at the 2nd guy it doesn't look as neat or even compared to the first guy hence why he is uneven.

Personally I’d like to see a progression of paper levels through the pedigree. A line that is solely one paper or moved back and forth between 2 has stagnated and would be best to be trimmed.
When I first started to focus my lines I sat down and narrowed down my goals. Once I’ve got a good base down with a number of horses at each generation fitting my goals I can then add in new genes I find interesting. I chose Grullo with patterns. I also chose to keep inconsistent horses only as showers not breeders.
So first off I run all available testing on all my horses from the barn page so no horse is left untested because it’s too pretty. Quality comes before colour and there’s always next season to repeat the cross.
Then I open the search and search by consistency. Flipping to the last page I alter everything that’s inconsistent.
Next I put Not like “Grullo” in the colour box and alter everyone on the list. Here I sometimes do go oh he’s too pretty to be altered and place a GMT marker in their name to be reassessed at a later time but often after a season or two has gone by I’ve bred a similar horse with more check marks on my list so the gmt marker is removed and the horse is altered.
Next I limit the search to studs and go through and comparison test each against their sire and snip any non superior boys. (I started out keeping AGA studs until I have a superior colt then his brothers are altered but I breed enough replacement colts each year that I've tightened up requirements) if I have time I’ll test brothers against each other and keep AGA until a superior comes along.
The top 3 tactics are for fitting my goals and don’t need to be followed.
I breed evenly lined horses and have enough barns that each generation has their own barn (the same results can be achieved with a spread sheet list all your horses, what’s the last completely full generation is, Sire, paper level) once you have the full list divide the list by generation either on one page or have a new tab for each generation to have an overview without clutter from other horses.
I go through each barn (or tab) and I allow the top 2 paper levels to stay intact. Once the initial pass is over I go through and alter the lower paper level if I have enough of the higher papers or if the line isn’t progressing.
Unless they have some super rare genes* I expect:
1st Gen yellow/red & B/ C
2nd Gen red & B
Third red/ Blue & B/A
Forth blue & A
Fith Blue/ gold & A / star
Sixth mostly gold & mostly star
Seventh+ all gold & all star
*I allow 1 paper level lag per generation for fantasy genes but once I’ve got a good number per generation that is the first to be cut. -
Bandit's advice is good for lined even horses - I recently started comparison testing my colts that met all my other requirements and that helped a lot. Making sure each generation is better than the last. SBA is good with that too but you often get as good as left intact. Try to be reasonably strict with the mares too though or else you will suffer "mare lag"!
I have made that name up but I am sure most people will understand what I mean. (Where you are stricter with colts because you have a lot of choice but let the mares through because you think you need more of them).
Keep the pointed horses though.
Or you can just "bootstrap breed" and forget about generations :)
Personally I like to do both. -
Mare lag is a term that’s been around quite a while. I tend to be fairly easy on my mares and do tend to pay for it in excess Show Horses because my boys are slightly better but since Show Horses are the money earners of the barn I celebrate every show horse I get and they pay me back every night lol
I’m currently working on breeding more mares to get a good base in each generation and then I will start sorting through and snipping them based off of AFPT but I’m aiming for at least 50 mares per generation and at the moment quite a few generations have under 10 mares
