If I could have this in real life....
-
When I bred this filly it occurred to me that if I could pick any one color to have on a live horse, it'd be this -- shiny silver dapple with satin. <3 Maybe I'd add a little splash. Maybe. My actual real horses are both fleabitten grey; I think one was chestnut and one was bay before they greyed out, but that's a guess.<br />
What about you?

I've actually had the pleasure of owning some of my favorite colors and they are the inspiration for two of my lines. My DP line and my Copper Flame line. The only sentimental color I don't have a line for yet is a Fleabitten gray. I don't even know if that color is possible in game. My Fleabitten mare I called my "prayer horse". As a kid I wanted a horse so bad but my dad was in the navy and we moved a lot. My parents told me to pray and be specific and save money and maybe one day I could get one. I was very specific like they told me to be and prayed for a white and brown spotted horse. No joke 2 weeks later we got a letter from my grandparents. They had surprised everyone and bought 40 acres in Florida and wanted everyone to come move and live on the property. They had also sent a picture and bought all the grandkids two horses that would be waiting for us. One was my fleabitten gray mare named Cocoa. It's funny how certain colors just stick with you and bring you warm fuzzy feelings.

Ive got something close in real life Abbey!
Well she doesnt have satin of course.. but it would be cool if she did haha
This is one of my miniature mares, Zoey. She was only a yearling in the picture, shes 2 now. :) -
She is so cute!
-
Ohhh, Abbey, she is a cutie!
And I really like that mare you picked, Baya.
MoonAcre Stables, what an adorable filly!
fj1482, that is a wonderful story. Thanks for sharing your memories. :)
I would love to have this mare in real life:

Thanks for sharing fj. :)
Honestly, at this point, I'd take anything. :P
But excluding some heterozygous nexus I have, here are some variations on two themes:
The Bays:
The Grays:
Obviously, they're not gray genes, just generally gray colored. I'd like a mouse gray because of a certain fictional horse from a series I started to name all of my foundations by. Obviously I got overrun by foundations, and I don't think there are enough names for them all. :P -

I'm boring. All I ever wanted in my life was a solid black Arabian stallion (Walter Farley's Black Stallion, anyone?). But I would be happy with anything I could get, if I could ever afford to have a horse and a place to keep it. -
Not boring at all KerredansCorral black is my favorite real life horse color.

Ditto, KC. :P

Probably my dream horse would be a golden buckskin or buckskin dun (love the zebra barring on the legs) appendix quarter horse (Quarter horse X Thoroughbred). Since I now live in sunny subtropical Queensland, this would actually also be a practical choice--light enough to not need sun sheets during the summer, hardy enough to deal with the climate. Because of that whole skin cancer Capitol of the world thing, I would want one with no white markings....especially nothing around the eyes or on the nose! But I am a sucker for a crooked star and stripe...
interestingly, this reminds me I haven't really started a buckskin line.....would someone please take all my hbs and save me from myself? I need a HJ banker.... -
It's funny you mention that cross Cheers. The second horse my grand parents bought us kids was a Quarter horse x Thoroughbred. Her name was Lass of Lad. She was 4 yrs old and she was your worst nightmare. She was beautiful to look at and to watch run in the pasture but if you tried to catch her you were fair game. She would bit, kick, purposely fall on you and on more then one occasion she bucked off her rider and tried to stomp them into the ground. The people my grandparents bought her from didn't bother to tell the city slickers that this horse had sent people to the hospital with broken arms and broken ribs, which we later found out. The adults at the time sold her to a woman who fell in love with her and thought she was the most beautiful thing she ever saw. We obviously warned her and her husband and they told them because of her history if they changed their minds we would buy her back. It took less then a week and my dad got a call from the husband. They never finished the call because my dad heard the wife yelling tell the husband he better not be calling the people to come get her. lol We never heard from them again but it wouldn't surprise me if Lass ended up being "Yummed".
-
LOL Cheers. :)
FJ, fleabitten happens in the game and is the reason I started a grey line. I haven't quite figured out which ones grey out white (homozygous?) and which one's grey out fleabitten, but I will after running this line for a while. :)
But, this mare was one of my best.

Moon, LOVE!! She's soooo adorable. I want a mini so bad! I told my husband that our next dog is going to be a mini that lives in the house part time :D

Black isn't boring! I love black too. Of the "basic" colors, it's a close tie between that and a very red bay or chestnut. See my post about the gorgeous black mare who has decided after six years that she trusts me... it's like a horse story in real life.

Fj--that is awful! I hope those people stayed safe and that mare finally found peace...
I have owned a quarter pony (flea bitten grey) and an off the track thoroughbred (blood bay), but in between them I leased an appendix named Phoenix. He was a big, rangy dappled dark bay with lots of chrome. My trainer's daughter bought him out of a back yard for a dollar as a show jumping prospect and he was pretty wild/unhandled when he came to the farm. He did run over the daughter at one point--knocked her over and trampled her when she was leading him in from the field. I could do anything with him--he would follow me around like a puppy. He taught me a ton about jumping and keeping my hands out of a horse's mouth while maintaining contact over fences. After I bought Cheers, Phoenix was ridden by another girl at the farm. She wasn't as brave as me and the partnership wasn't as smooth. One day he was out in the front field with his turn out herd and my trainers husband was out bush hogging on the tractor. A summer storm was coming in and everyone was out bringing in the horses when a bolt of lightning traveling ahead of the storm clouds hit Phoenix and killed him. It was really awful but we were always grateful it didn't hit Vernon, since he wasn't more than 100 feet away when it happened.... -
I happen to find a fleabitten foundation I will probably breed my gray mares to next season just to see what I get. You can imagine how an 8yr old girl who was praying and saving for a white and brown spotted horse to see a picture of a white horse with thousands of little brown spots all over her that her grandparents bought her as a present. I couldn't wait to get to Florida to meet that horse in person.
-
Cheers I knew a few horses that were just plain evil but they did manage to find that one special person they just seemed to click with. I can only hope Lass found that person and lived a happy life. One was a Dark bay named Blue. He was our ferrier's horse. He actually rescued him from a meat company. He had to have warning signs on the pasture fence because if you walked into that pasture without him you were fair game as far as Blue was concerned. Now if Blue was saddled and ready to ride he was a totally different horse with Ernie present but if Ernie wasn't there Blue was not the horse to get close to.
-
I certainly knew a few with behavior issues... A chestnut gelding at our barn had been broken in by Cowboys and would go crazy if any male came on the place in a cowboy hat. Our vet had to remember to switch to a baseball cap before he got out of the car every time he got called out to the barn!
I also knew a horse that was in a trailer accident and ended up upside down in the flipped trailer until they could cut it open and rescue the horses inside. The vets could never find anything definitively wrong with him, but sometimes you would saddle him up to ride and he'd be fine and others, with no warning, he would completely explode as soon as your butt hit the saddle. He was completely unpredictable and was eventually sold with full disclosure. I have to assume it was pain...and hope he found a pasture pony home or was maybe taught to drive. -

In real life I love duns and roans. I have a grullo quarter horse mare so I'm pretty lucky that way.
For patterns in real life I don't love tons of white because they are hard to keep looking clean. My senior year of college though the university where I was attending school purchased a bay rabicano broodmare. She was so beautiful. After seeing her I would love to have a rabicano in real life.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

My mustang also does NOT like anyone in a cowboy hat, men especially.

Yeah. Ear twitching is evil, if expedient!

Brown or Dark Mousey Buckskin.
My first horse was my favorite color even here in the game. Shadow was a thoroughbred, Standardbred cross. He was considered black, but he had just a tiny bit of brown in his flanks and on his head only. He didn't get it anywhere else. My aunt who raised and bred Palomino QH, said, technically, he was a seal brown, not black. But this was 40 years ago. The closest I can come to him from the game is this horse:
Another Brown color I like in the game and real life is Hood River Breeze AKA Whitney, she is in my avatar here. She is a registered APHA mare, and is listed as Brown Overo on her papers. Closest one I can come to in the game is this horse:
Here is the color Buckskin I like, Antique Carousel, who is also my most favorite horse in my stables: -
I would say I have very boring tastes in what I'd like to have. Always been drawn to flea bitten greys and dapples.#4519
