How does brindle work?
-
Hi all, I have a question, I got this girl from a HH earlier and I had some questions about her brindle gene. Is there a gene marker for it that I’m missing? If not, how do you breed for it?
I’m sorry if this is a stupid question I’m new and still trying to figure this out.

Brindle is mosaic but isn’t inheritable like other genes because it’s a break in the genetics.
You have a better chance at a Brindle if you breed brindles together but the odds are still way stacked against it. -
Don't worry, it's not a stupid question at all!
Like Bandit said, Brindle cannot be bred from. It's a random chance thing, however having a brindle parent (ONLY parent, no further in the lineage) apparently raises the chances a bit more. Still, it is a very rare occurrence and always a happy surprise. I've been playing for over a year and have only bred 1 brindle. Some people get three in a season!
To tell if a horse is brindle, you see it in the name (phenotype - how a horse appears) and see the word "Mosaic" after the WF (genotype - the genetic code of the horse). To search brindle horses, you cannot do so by colour name. The search doesn't seem to like that. Rather there is a box you can unclick to exclude all non-brindles.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Prices are almost always negotiable. -
Oh okay that’s awesome :) I’m excited to try with her! Is the chance better to get a brindle baby if both parents are brindle?
-
There’s a better chance but some players breed 50+ Brindle crosses a year and may only get 1 Brindle foal.
Currently I have 3 foundation Brindle studs with about 330 breedings between them, the oldest is 12 I believe.
1has 90 foals no Brindles, 120 foals 2 Brindles, 130 foals 1 brindle.
I have 3 foundation Brindle mares (plus 2 now deceased)
I have 1 lined stallion, 1 lined gelding and 1 lined mare all from the above stallions crosses with non Brindle mares.
ETA: I love Brindles and collect them whenever I can but unlike other genes I do not require a foal to get it to stay intact or I’d have no lined breeding stock left lol -
Also if you like her and want to try for Brindle babies you may want to gmt her into a stallion if you can afford it. That way you can increase your chances by breeding more than 1 foal a year (unless you use eggs)

All of my Brindle Lined foals have only had one Brindle parent, but Brindle is so rare (I’d say at best, maybe 1/500 foals, probably more like 1/1000). Brindle past a Foundation Breeding is even more rare, with maybe 2 or 3 of them in the game each season. These are this years bred (not created) foals that have been color tested Brindle:

Of the 44 foals as of this writing, three are Bootstrap/uneven generation, two are Gen 3, one is gen 4 and the rest are gen 2.
