How to GMT appy
  • I am looking to appaloosa onto a horse with no appy genes at the moment. Do I have to spend the two GMTs to put on LP or can I just spend one to get PATN1. Could someone walk me through the process of putting on appaloosa? I have done other genes but appy is a bit more complicated. Here is the horse I am adding it to.

  • LP is the appalossa gene, so you'll have to put at least one LP on him. PATN1 controls the blanket size.

  • You have to add the LP in order for the appy to show, think of LP like a light switch, if its on it shows, off is solid :). Patn1 is the gene that determines how much color pattern there is. No patn1 will be characteristics or small blanket. One copy will have a medium to large blanket, and 2x patn1 will be leopard
  • Thank you both. That is very helpful and answers my questions. :D
  • I have a related question... Is PATN in the game like the game version of snowflake and real life PATN in that it can be carried by non-LP horses? When breeding leopards (LP PATN/PATN) you'll always get a few foals with no LP that get the PATN gene. Can those foals in game throw PATN later like real horses can?

  • @JustaSaddletramp absolutely correct! Non appys can carry PATN, or even be hom for it without having to be appaloosa. I added appaloosa to my Snowflake Boy and he already carried PATN. He was just a regular little wild bay with roan when I created him.

  • :D Nice! So I've bred half a dozen 'solid' fillies that were hom PATN. Next time I'll be sure I label them that.
