Buckskin?
-
Can someone explain why this colt is a buckskin Appaloosa? Does he have silver expressing, hence why his black points are non-existent? I'm totally scratching my head here...

Wow. 0.0 That is interesting. What happens if you reroll?
-
I guess I could Rose, but I do like him the way he is. Sometimes the re-roll button makes me nervous.
-
I know what you mean. ;)
He's really interesting as he is! Maybe it's a combination of the wild bay and the cream working in an interesting way. :P -
But where did the wild bay come from?
-
It must have come from his dam. His sire is black under the champagne. His dam has so much dilution it's hard to tell, but I guess she's a wild bay under there. :P
-
Wow! He's cool looking! The wild bay would give him tiny little black socks instead of long black stockings, but I'm not quite sure why his mane and tail are so red... Maybe a weird effect of varnish?
If I had to guess, I would say his mom is a palomino roan Champagne hiding unexpressed wild bay.... -
I think the light mane and tail have something to due with Appaloosa colour shifting :). A few of mine look like chessies from my EE stud. It looks like all mine have either cream or dun, though, so maybe it has something to do with dilution genes acting with colour shifting?

Also bred this smokey grulla app (also grey, but I don't think it's affecting him yet) and he's pretty light. I thought he was Champagne when he was born, lol.

I have noticed that a lot of the buckskin horses are looking more bay than golden now, especially if they also have Ssty. I'm wondering if Ammit has worked on cream in the new image generator yet, or if it's still on the to-do list. The upgrading of Appaloosa is such an immense project and still not finished. The work there is amazing, both in the many, many aspects that have to be considered and in the results Ammit has achieved already.
It may be a while before cream is updated, if it hasn't been already.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I hear you about the dark buckskins, Sandy. But if I hadn't seen this guys color test I would have guessed he was some sort of weird red dun with the Appaloosa, certainly not a buckskin or bay! One of the things I love about this game is how much it keeps me guessing. I love the challenge of looking back at a horse' parents and grandparents and trying to decipher what genes it might carry.
-
It must be the sooty, varnish, and cream all reacting together. It does make sense, I think? Lol!
-
Mama is ee (palomino under the champagne and roan.. pretty girl!) so she's hiding the wild bay. That is definitely the reason for the paler points, but I've noticed that some of the Sooty buckskins have that more uniform color (not black) to their manes lately. I've wondered too whether it's going to stay that way.
But maybe it is varnish/appaloosa doing that... a search of "buckskin" in a tattoo name and a scan of the horses shows that it's mainly appys who show that less-black mane. Take a look.

Some of the less-sooty buckskin apps even look red dun (roan, in this case):

I really like the effect, personally... I have 2 foundation stallions that fall into this category. I also love the huge variation in buckskin colors. -
Thanks Abbey! I did find one of SandyCreeks horses, Amazing Wizard whom I suspect my colt will look quite a bit like when he turns two. I too am liking this form of buckskin and it has me making plans for carrying on this buckskin coloration in future generations down the road.
