Dumb question here...
-
I'm sure there's something along this same topic somewhere, and I tried looking, but obviously no luck.
Can someone explain to me what really is so special about perfect foundations, rank 5 and rank specials? I can see that they might show more consistently, and have cool colors, but production wise, I think I've gotten better crops out of regular DHH.
I've kinda given up my enthusiasm for grabbing them up! Lol -
In my opinion, they hold value because you have some assurance of a particular quality. Perfect foundations I think are a good bet for new players to start with, they ought to be good foundation stock to breed and do double duty as decent show horses. Higher ranks offer an engineered DNA profile for color breeding, better than average breeding or show potential, or both, like the Exceptionally Perfect, which I think of as being a step up from Perfect Foundations. And the Specials have collecter's item market value. There are absolute gems that come out of lower rank hh or random creates, it's just more of a gamble.
Or at least that's how I view them.More power! -
Here's what it says in the FAQ: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/faq.php#260
For the color based herd helpers it is just that; the colors. The higher the rank the more rare the color combination. Toss in exceptional breeding or showing ability and they become even more rare, so the rank is higher. Some of the rank specials have impossible color combinations, like Olw/Olw on Freaky Fridays

What makes a horse a Perfect Foundation is that you are guaranteed a horse with 100% breeding ability (highest C and Yellow quality), 100% showing ability (9.9 PT every time), and perfect consistency (will score exactly the same thing in both shows each week).
All Rank Specials are either Perfect Foundations or Exceptional Producers, or Exceptionally Perfect, depending on which Rank Special it is. Exceptional Producers will paper B and Red, but their PT scores will vary and some may be Inconsistent. Exceptionally Perfect horses paper B and Red, have 10.4 PT scores and are perfectly consistent.
P.S. There are NO dumb questions about this game. It's amazingly complex and if ever everything about it was written down, it would probably take up as much room as a copy of War and Peace. :DDe gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Thank you for the input. I understand the fundamental reasons behind each one. I can see for sure the guarantee on the showing and the consistency on like Perfect Foundies, Exceptionally Perfect and simular, but my cunfunkle is on the production...like ExPros, they'll pass SBA but many have low PT scores and are inconsistent. I've heard that sometimes they produce some good foals, but I've seen them pass on thier low PT and inconsistent. I've sold/auction most Of my older mares that haven't produced any keepers or a couple at best. So thier desired genes are still very illusive. Little frustrating when you breed two excpro and get a chestnut colt that's been snipped...what's excellent or exceptional about that? :-/

Also remember breeding ability and showing ability are separate.
Expros have exceptional breeding ability but they can very well be crap at showing with low PT’s and inconsistent. -
I have an Expro who couldn't breed his way out of a wet paper bag, until today and he is 5 yrs old.
