Papering Ranking
-
Might be a dumb question, but what's the stallion/mare papering ranking in order? I see posts saying things like "Please geld colts who paper below A" but I have no idea the rankings. :D A, B, C, D I'm guessing, but I see reds and other colors so I have no idea where those lie in comparison.

In stallions, the highest rankings are the Stars, then the A's, the B's, the C's and Showable only. In mares, the highest rank is the Gold, then the Blues, then the Reds, then the Yellows, then Failed. Since we have gotten the showing aptitude test, it weeds out showable only and failed and alters them at testing
and don't worry, we all had to ask this question to learn :)Thanked by 1Ritsika -
The other part of this is that a perfect foundation or top notch producer foundation stallion will probably paper C, while the average foundation mare will paper Yellow.
Stallions paper on their own merit and can be tested at birth, but mares paper mostly on the merit of their offspring, so the quality of stallion you breed the mares to makes a difference. You can't paper a mare until she has 3 living foals on the ground, so if you cull out a lot, you might never be able to paper your mares because they might never have enough offspring alive to assess.Thanked by 1Ritsika
