Hey y'all, I have this stallion who is quite a dark wild bay. He's homozygous sooty, so that may be all it is, but quite a few of his babies are just as dark. I'm wondering if there is DP in there too...

He's homozygous black, so I haven't been able to get a chestnut to color test. What do y'all think? He's my darkest wild bay, so I'm just curious!

I think he has something that's unique, for sure! I always look out for horses like this and I've never seen one dark like him before!

I'd say your boy has one copy of DP; he is very similar to that last mare. I'm not quite sure what makes some of them so red, and it has changed.... Cafe Noir used to be as dark as his sire and I accidentally rerolled him and it turned him blood red (I'd be willing to bet Dark Stranger would be red if rerolled too... he is wild bay with homozygous DP and I have not seen a wild bay that dark in a very long time).

Wow! Cafe Noir looks like he should be homozygous Sooty+!

I agree my boy looks closest to that last mare. Macchiato is a touch redder. I'd say 10 or 11 of his 20 offspring are as dark as him, so he's passing on whatever it is!

I'm pulling those colts out of the auction and they will be available for sale if anyone wants to give them as SS presents. Check his family page to see them!

I have this yearling male and a yearling female too, so maybe in the future I should breed horses like this. The new DP is just beautiful.
