What's going on with this dude?

I saw this interesting guy in auction today while I was looking for Watercolor prospects. He intrigued me so I picked him up and tested him. What is going on with his color? Is it the At interacting with the Sty? I searched for other horses with the same genotype, but only found one other horse who looked similar.

Meanwhile, here is a horse with a very similar genotype but a different phenotype.

    So what's going on here??
  • 2 different bay genes, top 2 are double sooty wild bay A+ buckskins, while the other is a normal bay buckskin A. In all cases, the At gene in any of these horses is recessive to the A+ and A forms of the gene, and therefore is not expressed, or covered up.

  • He looks like he has the GP gene. It wouldn't be listed since it's a hidden gene. It's rare for it to randomly generate on a foundation. Congratulations on an awesome find, if that is the case. @Cheers would be an excellent one to ask. She might be better able to tell.
  • If you are talking about the white in the tail, the top boy's is because if his minimal splash (also see it as a blaze on the face) If it was Glustra it would go much farther up like the second one. Also it does not happen in creates, you have to add the gene on after creation. Sorry to be the downer. Would be really cool if he was.
  • Aaah, thank you Wildland. I think my eyes were also seeing t and + as the same!

Are you sure Cheval? I was told foundies won't have visible (hom) GP, but splash can often make it look like they do. I've got a couple splashes I excitedly thought were GP!
  • Not sure at all. That's why I tagged Cheers.

I'd missed that he had splash. He's really nice looking either way. It would be awesome if he did have it.
  • Gotcha gotcha. Thanks to both of you!
  • Ooh! One of my favorite colors

It’s the wild bay with double sooty, no DP. It’s my next color project. I bought a stallion with the A+ and am crossing him with my Liver line, as half of my mares didn’t get the DP. (With the DP it makes a red color, which I can try to find if you would like)

We’ll have to ask cheers but this one might have DP

Thought I had an example of one I was sure had A+ With DP but I can’t seem to find it

Here’s one that’s even darker, not sure why

  • Oooooooooh! Yeah, I was wondering why he didn't have any lightening on his underside at all. I think that was the most confusing part to me. Your girl is pretty, I might reroll mine to try to get more white on him!

That RH is just a bay, and the others are Buckskins. That's probably the difference!
  • Thanks! I hope I can get more. If I’m successful with my program this season would you like some?

  • Here is the link to the Wild Bay color project with examples of many of the color variations in it.

  • How did I miss that link for my Link List! Added it!

  • The sort of cocoa powder color (or the original horse in this thread) is definitely associated with homozygous sooty no DP wild bay buckskin.

    B1 Chocolate Attack

This horse’s white tail tip is definitely a function of Splash, not GP. GP will never spontaneously occur in the game, it only happens if you GMT it on or you buy into a line.

Hunter, the richer chocolate color of your example

Is because she’s homozygous sooty wild bay with no cream. With DP, she’d be a blood bay.
