Question about eggs.
-
How often can you pull an egg from a mare?
Is it just one egg a season if you don't flush her, or can you only flush? (I'm new to the egg stuff)
Then when you implant the egg, does the mare that you implant it into matter? Has anyone experimented with this? Or does any mare work?
Thank you for the help. :) -
You can pull one egg every 5 Days. Once you breed or flush (flush, not pull a single egg), the mare is “bred” or closed for the season. Many of us will pull an egg every 5 Days and flush on the last pull date to maximize the number of eggs we get, but flushing is extremely expensive! Think carefully about how much an egg from your mare is really worth to you before you spend the hbs.
The surrogate mare you use to carry the foal will have no influence on the foal’s quality or color, so she does not matter. I personally keep a herd of Exceptional Show Horse mares in one of my barns as an embryo transfer herd. A trick here is that the list for mares you use for implantation is reversed (listed from Z to A, instead of A to Z) so I prefix my ET mares with the letter Z to quickly find them. Also, all mares in your barns who are breedable will show up in the list, so make sure you don’t accidentally ET into a mare you are trying to pull eggs from! -
The exact day count for pulling single eggs is
Day 1, pull an egg
Days 2, 3, 4, 5, wait
Day 6, pull another egg.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Thank you!
I have one mare I am trying to get from the auction that is 17. I would like to get as many eggs as possible from her, so this helps. Thanks again. -
I wasn't sure if I could afford the flush, so knowing I can pull one every 5 days helps tremendously.
