So it may have escaped some of you newer people, but Dark Star has been placing quite a few old horses into the auction. The good thing about this is not only is it near the beginning of the month, but those horses won't be fought over much by the contest accounts because they do not apply to their count of the daily bonus for the contest!
Now you may be thinking "But this horse is 19 years old! It'll age out at the end of the month". You're not wrong, not entirely. But there is every possibility that those 17,18 and 19 year old horses could survive the rollover. Not to mention, there is the maths.
To calculate how much a horse would give you each day, use this equation:
([Points]x0.75)/ 7
That's the amount of points a horse has, times by 0.75. Then you divide the corresponding number by 7.
This means that that 17 year old with 1600 points that you picked up for 2700 hbs in the auction would net you 171 extra hbs a day. There are 26 days left in the month, which means a total extra 4,457 hbs. You have not only made the money back you spent on the horse, but then some as well. And if that horse survives rollover, as it very well may, that's another month of all of that profit!
If you are ever worried that you're spending too much on an old show horse, use that formula that I posted. Then count the number of days left in the month, and times the daily bonus you get from the horse by that (as from today, it is 26).
Here is the link to a search of all the horses in auction, by points, for those of you who are wondering. I have bid on a lot of horses, up until page 3. Most didn't have any bids on them. Feel free to outbid me, I won't try to snipe you~

I have also had another look. There are some expro horses in auction, as well as some RS. Good breeders for those starting out!Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Thank you Obsidian -- especially for the formula. Going to mark this post for future reference.
Edit to add -- Auction's over! Between a gift from Cheers and the bids I made, my daily showing bonus just went up 401hb. Thanks for the nudge and the information! -
Just looked at the auction list now and, as it stands, there are already several RS, TNP, PF and Exceptional horses. Not many show ponies, but the first one and last two can make for good show ponies while keeping to brood dutiesProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Glad to know the formula! I may put together a spreadsheet of days left in the month x points the horse has to make an easy reference sheet of how much you'll make. Would y'all be interested?ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time. -
There are lots of darkstar horses in tonight’s auction again

Wow this really helped me, seeing mistakes I just recently made selling horses I had. Thank you lesson learned :)

Spreadsheet made! It's not finished yet, but the baseline is there. Just multiply the 1 value by however many days are left til rollover. I'll be adding to it as I find the time.
