Culling the herd

Should I geld and spay the horses that level off too soon? I have a very young stallion, leveled off at 3 years old. What do I do with it?

His show performance/PT have nothing to do with his breeding ability, so you can keep breeding him and see what kind of foals he produces for you. If you get a lot of spays and gelds, cull him.

Not long after I started playing HaJ1 in 2011, I had a foundation mare that papered 2.something. She was one of the best breeding ordinary foundation mares I had, and papered Red without any problem. Your stallion just might be as good at breeding as she was or, in this game, at least as good at breeding as a perfect foundation. Abbey Road is right--try him out for breeding and see what you get.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I have found the same thing as the other two. I have two mares that will be going on 18 this year. I do believe they will not be able to be bred next year, and may even age out of the game. Seafoam, 0.2 PT, papered 'red',' and has had 7 foals, and all of them passed their testing. 3 of those are showing at a profit, with a good point score. So Low, 0.4 PT, papered 'yellow,' but I kept her because she got one of my favorite patterns in the game. She has had 4 foals, only 1 spayed, the others are intact. The spayed mare, Not So Low got a PT of 10.2, and has a profit of 536, with 564 points as of today. So Low:http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=154868 -
Paints stables. Horses are able to be bred until they are 20Life is Special live it to your fullest

Which is to say that you can breed them at 19. 20 year olds pass out of the breeding business, but can still be going strong in the show ring, with a bit of luck.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I had a couple of mares until they were 22, they were leveled off, but I couldn't part with them, so I waited until they aged out. I have a stallion right now that I can't breed, but he is still showing. Lyrical Poet. I think I have had a couple that aged out at 18 though. But I might be wrong on that.

Many of them do pass out of the game on their 18th birthday. A few make it to 30+, but they are very few. A search for all the horses in this game shows a handful of 27 year olds.
The oldest horse in HaJ1 at the moment is 30. He was born/created on Jan. 22, 2011!De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Those of y'all with horses that are too old to breed but still showing well, do you spay/geld to take advantage of that training bonus?
-
The bonus only applies while the horse is still training. No horse is still training after age 20 :)
-
Ok. I don't have anybody that old yet so I appreciate you answering!
