Consistency?
-
What does that really mean? Is it bad to be inconsistent? I have one but he's pretty so idk
-
Consistency is how much variation there is in a horse's show score. A very consistent horse will have the same score each time (other than increases from training). A very inconsistent horse will have a wide range of possible scores. This means that sometimes they will place higher and sometimes they will place lower in classes. But as long as they are not dead last, they still earn points. Some members like to breed for more consistency, and some are more lenient.#28036

Consistency also affects PT score, which I think is the main reason some people don’t allow it in their breeding herds. Inconsistent horses are more likely to throw inconsistent foals. This is no big deal, except if you are planning to cull out your breeding stock by average foal PT (AFPT) because the inconsistent foals will have lower PTs than the same quality consistent foal. So you’re not really comparing apples to apples. It’s no big deal, just something to be aware of.

That's cool, thanks guys

Inconsistency used to be a quick one way trip out of my barn because it was too hard to predict where the horse would land in a show and would either win or lose lots.
Since the show system has been updated to the points system and the class fees dropped and you no longer need to micro manage your herd to make sure you can afford to show all the horses and that they would make it profitable for you.
As long as they place above last place they are making you money so now I just alter the inconsistent horses and stick them in my show barns (and that is more to reduce my breeding stock numbers than any other reason)
