Curious gene thread
-
Currently trying to get my genes organized and learn them as I progress in the game. The first line I definitely want to work on is grullo. I currently have 3-4 maybe 5 that have grullo. I think only one I have is completely homozigose for DD. That’s what I want to end up having is a line with pure DD.
Will that be lethal to breed with or no?
Also I was wondering what a DD and a GG would end up looking like. Is it possible ? -
G (grey) covers everything else, including D (Dun, dun a black horse is grullo) DD is not lethal at all. I actually try to breed for a grullo/ bay dun herd. Welcome, and if you need any helplet me know. Thrilled with having another dun breeder. :)

The only lethal genes are certain types of splash, frame, and then you have the kit lethalities. Dun, gray, appy, etc are all safe!
Since gray is a dominant gene, with just one G the horse would be gray. One way to see how a gene would look would be to use the horse search. You can enter the colour name or select "Must have/not have" in the drop down tabs for the genes. By selecting "Must not have g, Must not have d", I got these horses. Either they're white (due to age), or gray:

Thank you both so much for the help with trying to figure this out ! :)
@wildland acres - definitely keep in touch with me and how your lines are going :) would love to eventually end up being able to have a breeding friend who strives for the same color genes!
And @obsidiankitsune - thank you so much for setting my mind at ease with the lethal status :) and thank you for being able to pull up a couple of examples for what I was trying to find. I guess I gotta be smarter then the search bars to find what I wanna find haha. I ended up just putting “must have” D and “must have” G instead of the method you did. Thought I was going crazy! -
So update was going through my horses and one of the rank HH horses I created is a silver grullo. I knew he was gonna be a silver grullo because he was guaranteed to be. Well I decided to name him Devils Silver Chance. And I just went to look at his ID number and it has 666 in it, how crazy is that!

For the search, a lot of the times it helps if you know exactly what you're looking for. If you know that you want a horse homozygous in a certain gene, let's say At, brown, then you put that gene as "Must have", and all the others on that location as "Must not have". Which means you'd need to put the "must not have" on a, A, and A+. The result would give you horses with only At at that location.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Nice, it will be fun. If you need any help let me know. Most of my studs have dun.

If you want to see a range of Grullo horses with different patterns you can search my mares and stallions on my main account.
I strictly breed Grullo and have splash, tobiano, rabicano, w8, sabino 1& 2, ice 1, Satin, Silver, pearl, w20 and frame running through my lines often multiple patterns per horse so you can see interactions. No grey tho
I also have different combinations of Ee and EE, Dd and DD (horses need to inherit the dominant gene from both E & D to be grullo)
