What is Consistency?
-
What does it mean if a horse is consistent or inconsistent? Is it something that can change?
-
Consistency is a marker of how uniformly a horse scores when shown. This can range from perfect consistency (always the same score every week) to extremely inconsistent (perhaps, although I haven't tracked this in some time, more than 10 points difference in scores).
If a horse tests consistent it may be perfectly consistent or it may have a very slight variation in scores, up to 2 points above or below its base score.
Here's an example. A horse has a base score after its weekly training of 38. If it's consistency is +/-1, its actual score in the show might be 37, 38, or 39. Which it gets will be randomly generated when the show runs. If the horse is +/-2, its score might be 36, 37, 38, 39, or 40.
Inconsistent horses will have a greater variability than that, and it becomes very difficult to predict where it might place in a given show.
Generally speaking, a horse's consistency remains the same throughout its life. However, if you can afford it, an inconsistent horse may be made perfectly consistent in the Gene Modification Lab, as long as it is younger than 5 and has no living offspring. It costs one GMT token to do this. You can purchase these tokens for $5 each on the Upgrade with Real Money page, or you can buy one using game money for 20 Investment Vouchers. Each IV costs 12,500 hajibucks.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

A long time ago (before the show system was set up as it is now) the higher the horse got in showing levels the more expensive the class was to enter (several thousand per show) in order to not waste money you had to study your horses and predict when the best time to show that horse was, how long to show it and when to stop showing to give it a rest until it is competitive again.
Consistent horses were ideal as they would predictably score near the predicted score range and be competitive and earn their keep. Inconsistent horses could score the predicted score or swing higher and earn more or swing lower and lose money.
People would cull based on inconsistency because it was easier to track consistent horses. Although if a consistent and inconsistent horse both scored the same score the inconsistent would more likely place higher.
Now that the showing system has been updated the classes are a fraction of the price so a player doesn’t have to carefully pick and choose which horse to show or not. Also where a horse places isn’t necessarily as important as how many points a horse earns throughout their lifetime that you get paid out as a show bonus. Inconsistency isn’t quite as big of an issue as it used to be
