You get the greatest benefit by leaving mares in pasture for 30 Days. However, you probably get some benefit after any number of days. No matter what, you have to wait until the 5th when pastures open, at which point they will nearly have half of the benefit. I say breed when it makes sense to you.

That said, the server tends to REALLY slow down in those first few days of pastures opening because so many people are breeding. I personally tend to steer clear of my pastures til the 7th or so personally!
